Springs captive at full suspension droop

i want to lower the front of my ke25, which has macpherson struts. i have some custom rally springs i bought off a guy, but they aren't captive at full droop. they certainly stay in the car during all sorts of conditions, certainly nothing as severe as what i'll be putting it through
i've called an engineer and rta tech enquiries, and they tell me there is NO RULE that says springs have to be captive at full droop. local highway patrol didn't know of such a rule, and said it would only be a problem if the spring popped out and caused an accident. so it looks like i can use these springs!

I'd say that infomation would very much differ, not only state to state, but also person to person within the state. I'd check again, and then get it in writing before I took it as gospel, cos we all know the "ruling" will be abused if it's allowed as such?! I also know rally cars tie springs into struts, which if faced with that scenario is what I'd do!

an engineer, rta tech enquiries, highway patrol and an authorised inspection station all say the same thing. i'm happy with that. the springs were cable tied in on the rally car, i'll do the same to mine

I would wire in the springs. Drill some holes in the tops, loop some wire thru and tie it to secure the spring to the strut top. Repeat for the bottom.
Even if it is legal (which I would doubt), why would you risk it?

yeah i'm thinking i'll wire or hose clamp them
can you suggest a shorter stroke shock that fits inside ke20 struts and maintains adequate damper travel? ae86 inserts are still ~8mm away from being captive
getting the struts shortened isn't really within the budget, and would be a waste on ke20 struts anyway. i'd use scorpion control arms, custom control arm bushes, ae86 power steer arms, ae86 struts and have them changed to short stroke height adjustables. way too much money at the moment. this way i bolt it all together and it costs me nothing

Use AE86 Tokico HTS inserts. Total travel of 125mm. They will be captive, no doubt about it.

I pick up AE92 on, struts to rob the shafts out of them, purely for this purpose!!! MR2 are also good, if you want to make your own insert up?!
