Today was my last day of edyamacation to become an electronics engineer
Now I just have to figure out if its worth doing a doctorate It would be sweet pickup line saying I'm a doctor, but I don't think I could handle having anymore formulas rammed into my head
I dont really know why I am posting this, but meh.

Friends started electrical engineering at southbank TAFE. But they concerned themselves more with who could do the best "skids" in the car park whilst leaving.
They don't go anymore.

do your doctorate!
become a professional student like me (and dave and Ed, who both spent 10+ years at uni)

There was a lecturer on imaging techniques at UQ called Dr Cool.
Imagine trying to pick up..."Hey, i'm Dr Coooool."

Did you go to a uni or a tafe?
I'm wanting to do something with electronics next year, but I'm not too sure yet on where to go.
I want to do stuff like design circuits and all the practical work that goes with it. Plus learn some more about the components themselves. Plus I guess there might be some programming of the logic chips involved too?
ATM I'm envious of these guys you see pull out circuit diagrams from their arses just on a whim. I'd like to be able to do that too.

I did it all at tafe as all the company's I know of ill not hire uni grads. Plus tafe is alot shorter because there is a lot of practical work involved.
Micro processors and circuit design is my area of excellence

So what was the diploma called?
Plus did it have all the good stuff of being able to identify all of the electronic components and actually designing and then making circuits? And what sort of programming was involved for the processors?
Did it get you to a level where I could ask you to design a circuit to interface a serial mouse to an amiga joystick port if you are given what pin does what on each end?
Lately I just love to stare at computer expansion cards and motherboards and just look at all the components and thier traces trying to figure out what it all does. I'm pretty confident I can identify what each component is, such as which are the resistors and which are the capacitors, etc, but the little things of where they should be in a circuit to let so much current/amperage through, and what the ratings on capacitors really mean, etc currently escape me.

I was working with electronics as a service/design person for a fair few years before I started an apprenticeship doing cert 3 in electro-technology in engineering.
The cert 3 covers everything including component identification, soldering, fault finding, designing circuits, working out what power/current should be at a certain point, what value components to use and why, etc etc.
The diploma and then the advanced diploma just go into more detail.

Good stuff! Same here. I'm currently building an old 8085 system, then I got a few S100 systems to fix. I got a workshop full of analyzsers, programmers, CROs and shit. I love building and fixing this shit. Also am into microcontrollers - but the processors are my true love - along with digital circuitry.
