Total Leak didn't tell you either? Chat to "stenno" about his issues.

Just use the standard Toyota ones.

Total Leak, SPOT ON... Just removed head and my valves and pistons are covered in carbon and the bores well who needs a mirror when you got my motor Laughing

Genuine Toyota rings $440 + 3 week wait, need another option.

ACL.

That Total Leak don't tell you that the 7M block requires a special honing process borders on negligence. All it would take is a photocopied sheet of paper with rings saying, "Use honing grit X and have cross hatch angle Y."

um, rings taking 12,000km to bed in? hmmm Rolling Eyes

ACL rings are pretty decent, and are only about $180. Hastings is another option, but last i looked they didnt stock 7m rings in australia and they needed to be ordered in.

make sure the hone job you get is decent. 7m's seem a bitch to get the hone correct on. stenno posted some stone and surface specifications on performance forums, and these specs have been supported by 2 engine builders ive spoken to.

Ed, Are you using ACL in your 7M? Ill have to check out ACL's website and see what they have and recommend for the 7MGTE.

Blake, 1 Litre for 5000km I wish mine was that good! I would have to put in a litre every week (about 300km) thats why I stripped the motor down. After spending a bit on my 7M setup I am pissed off with the smoke out the rear. My car is gonna be off the road AGAIN for about another 2 weeks.

Allan, since putting my Toyota HG in I hadn't had a problem except for my rings. On Sat I pulled the motor down and I did not expect this but my HG had started to go... Dont know how long it would off lasted for but im amazed yours is still going strong.

Interesting thread.
Am having "issues" with rings and bores. Have had two sets of rings and hone patterns recently.
Originally had US made rings, that splintered!
Now have Total Seal rings too. Have used them with terrific results in the past, but not this time.
Am very interested in comments and experinces on hone patterns, etc.

you probably got a course finish on the head or something wrong with block surface, not only that your runing an aftermarket ecu and obviously had some detonation while tuning...

Post pics of head, block and gasket!
