I am currently running 2 1/2" with straight through resonator and supercat muffler. The noise from idle to off idle and back to idle is really loud and seems to have a lot of resonance. Normal light acceleration and driving ok, but as soon as you back off accelerator that resonance is back. Any ideas how to quell this roar as it is quite unbearable inside the car, without having to go to restrictive muff to shut it up.
I've got the exact same setup in my car (but i DO have a cat) and i have the EXACT same problem with loudness as well. Unfortunately the 4AGZE is renowned for being unbearably loud and I've put up with it too long as well! The only suggestion i can think of would be to run double resonators, and maybe a silencer? But I guess if you want real results, a dampening resonator would be the go.
By a dampening resonator do you mean one that is stuffed with fibreglass OR do you mean a helmholtz resonator that relies on sound reflection to cancel out the soundwaves(no fibreglass stuffing) OR do you mean one that uses both of the above like the one made by hedman headers?
I think you're going to have to get a real muffler. I have a single straight through resonator and a single muffler, and dont have the back off resonation, its only loud loud, when I'm getting stuck right into it. Which is when you want a bit of noise anyway
