Hi, i have a 1990 Celica with a S53 5 speed manual gearbox. I am going to be calling wreckers today for a new one as my syncros are rooted and i was told i should ask for a camry gearbox if they are the same because i will probably be quoted less because it's a cheaper car? What year camry's had this gearbox? I assume it was only on 4 cyl camry's (not v6's?). Was this gearbox in any other cars? Thanks guys

i'm pretty sure ur g/box is called a s54. (s53 updated) the widebody camry's (5sfe)probably got the same one s54.
(i could be wrong thou. )
i think the g/box is worth around the $600mark in vic,the s53's are about $450.

The plate in my engine bay says it's a S53. This S54 sounds better (bigger number), what are the differences. Somebody told me that the 90-91 celicas had synchro problems that were fixed in the 92-93 models but i'm not sure if this is true or not?
