Nice Roads Thu, 26 August 2004 00:11 Go to next message
Hi People

I had a bit of a holiday earlier this week on the north coast of NSW and just couldn't help taking some pics of the awesome roads. The ones I've got online are on the way down out of the "rain forest" at Dorigo. Quite an enjoyable drive and the scenery wasn't too shabby either.

Enjoy

That road looks mad. How did the mr2 handle around all those bends? Looks like a nice place to go for a cruise/holiday.

Haha.. I think I pulled over at that exact same spot Josh when I went up there with Jesse last year..

And yes, I have to agree it's an awesome area for both roads and scenery..

Ya, that's noice.

There's a few roads with similar twistyness near work, but it's all busted-assed 3rd rate patchwork. Not nearly that wide, either.

Melbourne folk: Grab the trusty ol' Melways and check some of the roads around Emerald in the Dandenong ranges. Smile

I know that road pretty well. been going on holidays up there since I was three. Just gotta watch out for the logging trucks, they come down the hill pretty fast and take up more than there lane. Havn't driven it yet.

The old girl handled awesomely. She was more than a little warm in the engine bay when I got to the top of the mountain though. There was a little smoke coming off the firewall insulation just in front of the turbo exhaust housing. This is due to the old 4A's proficiency at vibrating out the oil cap and dowsing the engine bay in oil.

I have to say it's a lot wider on the parts where I took those photos than on most of the road, there's a couple of other really nice tight corners that I'd love to have photographed but it was really only 2 lanes with nothing on the edge. Mostly the surface quality was really good, I got the imprint of my hat button in the top of my head a couple of times but it was worth it.

So do you lose an oil cap everytime you rev your baby?

-That's bad!!!

I'm sure it won't be too hard to stop it turning. Perhaps drill a hole in the edge of the cap (not the sealing section) and thread-in a bolt that will interlock with something on the rocker cover. Can't think of anything prettier right now. Perhaps plumbing tape (or automotive equivalent) in the thread, to increase the friction.

Maybe something involving tie-wraps.... . .

Don't worry about me losing oil caps anymore. There's no 4A in my car these days and the 3S runs so much smoother it's not funny.

The conversion cost, I dunno really, lets just say less than 5 figures. I do however have a heap of late model SW20 parts to move which will bring the cost back down a little. I have to say it transforms the car though and is worth every cent even in the hugely detuned configuration I'm running in at the moment.

for the victorian guys, some of the best road you can drive is from bairnsdale to bright via omeo..
only good in summer though, otherwise there is too much snow, and too many bloody tourists!!
have been in a car over that way heaps of times, and driven it once. its great Very Happy
even if your not going hard, its still so much fun because of the fast sweeping bends, and then the nice tight ones chucked in.
also, great road surface with very few large mid corner bumps.
