What do you think of this

I've just been messing around in photoshop with a photo I took on Tuesday afternoon on top of Stanwell tops...... I tried not to go overboard.
Pictures are roughly 200KB so rather than have them in the forum I've just put links in.
What does everyone think about the pictures....I really should find something better to do with my time.
Before Photoshop:

After Photoshop:
http://www.users.bigpond.com/simon.lawrence/after. jpg
Heres a bit of a yarn about how I came to take the photos. Long story.... If you don't want to read it just take a look at the links above and post some feedback of what you think of them.
I used to own a ST162 Celica... sold it a little over a month ago and bought my soarer. Anyway I get to work on Tuesday and a friend asks if I sold my old car... I say yeah, why?
Turns out he has seen my old car dumped and burnt out in the national park near stanwell... Had to be my car too, no one forgets my old number plates HOT*20L. So I got my Digi cam and went for a look cause I wouldn't mind a few bits and pieces off it for old times sake after all it was my first car and I owned/thrashed it for 2 1/2 years.
In the end I didn't find the car but caught this awesome sunset on top of Bald Hill (sorry Photography has been a hobby of mine for many years). So I snapped a few shots of the soarer.
Anyway.... I'm going to have another look for the car on Saturday afternoon (I know....damn have to drive through the Natio again ). If anyone else is in the national park and sees the car before me can they grab the number plates off it... I'd really like them as a memento!

Yeah looks good. Looks like you lowered it. When/if you did, did you cut the whole car out and drop it on the wheels? I used to play around with images like that all the time. I found the best way to lower a car was in Paintshop Pro. You trace (either freehand ot point to point) the bottom half of the car and then, say along the gutter next to the car. Then you drop the whole background and car onto the wheels. Crop the top off and shadow in the wheel arches and under the side skirts and it looks a bit less pixely.

Yeah its a digital camera.
Fuji Finepix s602.
Camera is actually 5 megapixel but these were only taken at 3 megapixel and I've compressed them aswell.
5 Megapixel images can be up to 18Meg.... bit too big for the net.

I like that Purple colour! I want my celica that colour
Do you think if I gave you a picture of my TA22 you could get it that exact same colour?

I was wondering when somebody would notice that..... didn't like the grafiti on the post so I gave it the chop....
Got lazy on the big block a wood though and it looks a bit dodgy... might do a better job latter.

Ok..
here is a very quick job on Rolla Boys ride...
I'm not very proud of this, I'll give it a better go when it isn't Midnight.
Nice bigger front bar... slightly larger wheels and looks like someone got to the springs with a hacksaw... mabye they just took them out altogether!

Looks good Simon. May I suggest you clone out the white lines and concrete stoppers?
Nice camera dude. Feel like doing some fashion shoots for us?? Our photograher is very good at getting a shot but being an older guy has not yet learned how to switch to digital and keeps stuffing up the lighting. I find he doesn't bother too much with focus and is too old school in his thinking. Does he not know that wrinkles and blemishes can be retouched rather than lost in focus! You would have loved the latest shoot, brasiers hehehe. too bad I had to get the job of retouching the nipples off the see thru ones.
I assume that most people know how to use Photoshop but for people just starting you might find the next 10page essay interesting ;)
Another good method to lower the car if you have a tricky background where it's hard to cut any of it and drop it down(good idea to move the whole lot Sean, this works well most times and is quick) is to deep-etch the whole car (I find the pen tool gives a smoother result) but leave out the wheels. After you have gone around with the pen tool, make a selection of the vector path with about .3 or .4 pixel edge (should work ok on the average low res type jpeg maybe .2 if it's very small, CTRL click on the path to make a selection in future if you want to use the same pixel edge, just a shortcut) The reason you should use the pen tool to create a path is
a: when you make a selection from the path it gives a better/cleaner edge than any channel mask, magnetic lassoo or magic wand selections.
b: gives you good control over getting a good clean smooth line especially across the top of the roof! Let me know if you need some pen tool tips :) can take some getting use to for a beginner.
ok, after you have converted you work path you made with the pen tool to a selection with .3 pixel edge then make sure you have the picture layer selected and hit CTRL-J which will copy and paste the car deep-etch to a new layer. (layer via copy shortcut)
you can do the same for the wheels to have them fully editable.
Then, just enlarge the car a tad and drop it down while enlarging your wheels and floating them anywhere you desire on the layer beneath the car.
...also, try just dropping the car down and then cloning the layer beneath to remove the car edges that show could be easier.
(deselect "use all layers" on the clone tool options so you can easily clone under the car edges without picking up the car which is on the top layer)
Other good reason for using layers are you can then add whatever backgound you like including just plain black then using the pic for your wallpaper :) (with a subtle electric blue glow around it)
Anyone wishing to just paint on s a body kit can have great success by doing it on a new layer using the good old fashioned "by hand" method of painting it on. Start with darkest areas and build up to the light areas. When finished try a bit of blur if needed then add some noise to match the pics natural structure then a blur again (CTRL SHIFT F to fade the blur to get just what you want) from memory you cant fade a filter if you have a layer mask on it. correct me if I'm wrong.
This is also a good method to remove reflections and crap of body panels. AND IT WORKS if you take you time. I can send you a few Street Machine "before and after" covers to prove it.
Windows looks great if you make selections and CTRL J them to a new layer. You can then blur, darken, glare, WHATEVER you like to the windows and adjust the layer opacity if you went too much. I definately think that dark smooth reflectionless windows look mad.
If anyone does need any help with Photoshop I'd be happy to help out as I use it on average about 9 hours a day. One of my favourite jobs was the Cleo cover with Cameron Diaz wearing a short cropped blonde hairdo (yep, put on) and a black and white striped dress (was a completely different design white dinner dress)
Get cracking on your pics! Don't think of how wild you can make your ride look, more like how damn nice and clean your beast looks. Who needs a studio shoot??
If you get it looking good I can provide a cover service for you and do a mock Steet Machine or Mottor cover. (got a pic of your chick?? I can do a Pichure or Peeple cover for you too.) Final format will be a Photoshop PDF which I recommend everybody uses even whilst working on your files. They store all retouching and path data and can be viewed easily outside of photoshop. It also supports ZIP (lossless) and JPEG (lossy)compression formats. Avoid Jpeg like the plague unless sending to someone to look at or displaying on the net as everytime you save a jpeg it re-analyses the file and compesses it again. Try opening and saving a jpeg 10 times and see what kind of quality you're left with!
As you could imagine I don't get much spare time these days so if you did want a cover mockup (exactly the same as what would be printed except for you pic, barcode and all) it wouldn't be a next day service. But they sure look good framed on your wall! ..and congrats to those members who have real magazine shoots to show.
No question too big or small.
hassle me at work on srobb at acp.com.au anytime although I'm doing dayshift most times now.
