3TGTE in TA23

Just a quick question about my car, I have a 3TGTE in a ta23 that i put in about 1 year ago, it would have 25000 kms on it since complete rebuild (new over sized pistons, bearings, gaskets, shaved head, port polish etc) It also has a other modifications that can be seen in my signiture.
I raced a mate who just got a soarer (the newer rounder type with 1JZ) I raced him and got absolutley flogged. Just thought my car would have a lot more go than what is has at current. Could there be something wrong, or would you expect this result? Anyone have any suggestions? My car needs new distributor leads and possibly cap, but i wouldnt expect that to slow it down lots, could it? Also hits full boost late, although this is expected with ct20 turboes..right?
Anyone who can offer any advice or answer the questions, that would be great.
Thanks

Two questions:
1. What has your mate done to his 1JZ ?
2. Have you ever put your car on a dyno and looked hard at its state of tune ?

CLG - what info, tell me and i will give it to you
RA23celica - 1JZ is stock besides 3 inch hiflow exhaust/s
I have never put my car on a dyno, was going to do that after i put my frount mount and new turbo on, it is running pretty bad at the moment though, using lots of fuel aswell

With my 3TGTE, everything factory and rebuilt. Aftermarket computer though. It made around 90rwkw or so.
Now with custom plenum, turbo manifold, front mount & more boost it makes 163rwkw.
So almost doubled in power from those upgrades.
So a stock 3t, even though rebuilt, can make pretty average power.

i would look into tuning... its all good to have an aftermarket ECU but if it aint tuned correctly then its not worth having.. expecially over sized bearings, rebuild would definately need a tune for that stuff...
have you ever had it tuned? how did you put the haltech on without a tune????
also running rich is another dead give away, if it diesnt have the fright mixture then it aint gonna give the right power..
finally if everything is currently stock other than ecu and pistons then you aint gonna be beating a soarer i dont think, but thats my opinion....

TurboRA28 - Was that power figure from the custom manifold i bought off you and a CT20-B turbo?
fade-e - Yea i was thinking a tune may be the main reason, but yea still thought it would go a little harder, although i may be wrong.
I personally havent had it tuned as yet, but the guy who had the motor and car before me tuned it before we did the rebuild, but it was road tested by the guy who hooked up the management system.
I didnt think I would beat the soarer, just didnt expect to get flogged.
Thanks for your replys

If you are running Joel's old manifold and a CT20B then boost should arrive pretty early - with late boost though - quite a simple problem (to bith have and repair) is that the wastegate may be stuck open (very easy to catch on part of the down pipe arrangement or flange).

Dont actually have Joel's old Manifold and a CT20-B turbo on there as yet, still have the stock manifold and turbo, will be putting on the CT20-B and custom manifold when i get some money saved up, as I also want to put on this front mount and get a decent tune.

Stock 3TGTE with std boost will get eaten by Soarer 2.5 GTt everytime. Even if you up the boost a bit, you will only be in front for a short period of time - the Soarers are pretty quick top end.
