lower steering wheel (essential),
remove face of dash (note: requires knobs removed from air controls and back lit face of air controls removed)
buy a new stereo with DIN sized fitting frame and attach to dash face,
get all wiring ready and attached to plug tha came with stereo
re-assemble dash
remove from car cause you fubar'd the wiring
fix wiring,
re-install.
... or pay some knob at autobahn to do this for you.
is pretty simple, you can also get to the back of some stereos if you remove the glovebox...
if your in BNE, you might get a peek at my manual to help you do some of this.

Is the DIN hole cut out up top where the stock radio is?,or is it where the tape player goes, near the steering wheel?I ask this because my brother has an ra40 and i put the head unit where the tape deck went.
if the hole is there, then u have to just do the wiring and mount the new h/unit's locking cradle in there and its done. But u have to unplug the aerial lead from the standard radio (uptop) and get and extention lead (costs like $5..) in order for it to reach the new h/unit.
u should have no troubles. good luck

Alan, u have a point about it being in a "bad line of sight", thats true.but my bro is happy ,he's got a cd player that works, so i don't care
As for cutting the dash of an ra40.. how gives a s**t!!the cars worth like $500!
As for setup, man 6inchers in the doors, the 4" fit in the back ontop near the rear seats. i have made a box with 6x9s in the back and it sounds alright.
If the hole is where the factory radio is then just do exactly what chuckster discribed. (i was mearly offer an alternative for if the hole was cut where the tape deckes goes.)
good luck

i had plenty of slack in my aerial lead, you may not need an extension. from memory i think i just had to reroute it a bit.

you have to unbolt the thing that attaches the steering column to the frame behind the dash - even adjustable steering height won't help you here.
