Auto RT104 -> 5sp with RA60 bits? Thu, 26 August 2004 13:29 Go to next message
Hi guys

Just doing a bit of research. All going to plan tomorrow I'll have an RT104 Corona, but it's auto. I can live with that, but am sure that it will start to bother me on the highway so I thought I'd look into a 5sp conversion for the obvious overdrive as well as making the thing *slightly* more interesting.

Questions - to which I know the answers but thought I'd double check:

Will box/fly/clutch from behind a 21R-C RA60 will bolt up?
Will the RT104 starter mate up with the ring gear on this flywheel?

Questions - to which I don't know the answers:

Will the W57 fit in the tunnel?
Will the shifter be in the right spot?

1. Yes it will, but tailshaft and gearbox crossmember won't.
2. Yes.
3. Yes.
4. Unknown, but as you know it's easy enough to swap shifters around if necessary (or just hack the tunnel).

i swapped a 4 speed for a 5 speed and had to "modify the tunnel by about 50 mm.

He's talking about using the RA60 box (W57). You obviously used an RA23/28/40 box (W50) which is plug-and-play.
