I haven't heard of a stainless head gasket before.
I assume that if it was solid stainless steel that it would not be maleable enough to seal properly.

Copper is quite maleable and seems to be the norm as far as metal head gaskets go

from my experience copper is good only for really big power projects and if u want to lower the compression (ie: tripleplate gasket of copper)

i agree with toobs
stainless steel wouldnt work and i wouldnt try it
i think someone was smoking something a lil strange when they told u that

um also wot sort of power are you looking at because if u get the tuning right and ur car doesnt do a 400m pass under 11sec with 500kw at the rear wheels i dont see why u would need one
but wot motor is it and wot set up r u hooking up cos u might not need a copper one at all

ive heard from a mate who used to work a Crydon that the mentallity there is that if u get the car tuned right u shouldnt need anything but a standard head gasket unless u need to lower the compression

anyways as always i could be totally wrong thats just wot have been led to believe so feel free to correct me anyone Very Happy

Stainless "may" be used as part of a multi layer steel (MLS) head gasket... Nobody seems to say what steel they use in an MLS gasket though so it could be any sort of steel.

I doubt very much that stainless would work well as a solid 2mm head gasket like you have described though due to the points I already raised.

We can get stainless head gaskets from Advan in a range of thicknesses. they tell me there a TRD product. apparently they can weep a little around the oil feed if you dont bond it properly. that happened to a friend with an mr2

2mm is probably a bit thick if you haven't had much machining done on the contact surfaces.
AFAIK the main reason they make larger thicknesses like 2mm is to compensate for any extra metal taken off the block or head to remove imperfections.

Some people use thicker head gaskets to lower compression a little, however, I think using thicker gaskets for this reason is a stupid idea!

TRD 0.8mm MLS Headgasket seems to be the most commonly used HG thickness... give you enough room for a slight shave of the block.
About $180ish from Toyota if I remember correctly.
