Our KE26 has a Davies Craig thermofan in it that I picked up at Supercheap. I haven't measured it, but it's no more than 3 or 4cm deep. It is intended to be mounted in front of the radiator though. Mounting bits weren't difficult; just bought a big strip of 25x3mm steel from a scrap yard ($2 or so), drilled holes in it, and cut it up with a hacksaw. It all seems to work well.
Total cost was easily under $100 including the separate thermoswitch unit, fuse, and wiring, don't remember the final figure though.

I think the thinnest Davies Craig do is 38mm but I could well be wrong.
And - don't just use metal plate as washers for the bolts/nuts that mount the fan, you will conduct uber heat into the plastic mounting clips and retaining nuts. Get and use some fibre washers and put those between the rad fins and the bolt.
No point in getting towards the end of a good conversion and then cutting corners with the small things!
Cheers,
Mitch.

38mm hey... well i guess ill forget about mounting behind the radiator, ill have to check clearance behind the air con gear at the front and mount it there. maybe a bonnet vent to keep under bonnet temp in check also.
thanks guys.

I had better clarify that to say what I meant to say. That you should get some fibre washers between the rad fins and the metal washers/plates, not just use fibre washers instead of the metal plates, or just the metal plates by themselves. Give your fan mounting points a little more protection and maybe not crush as many rad cooling fans by using just metal weashers alone.
Cheers,
Mitch.

Perhaps i should clarify... the steel brackets I made up don't mount to the radiator at all; they attach via four bolts to the radiator support panel. The fan is still fairly close to the radiator, however. If I notice it getting too hot, or vibrating too much, I'll look at getting some nonmetallic washers

38mm fan?! holy crap...that is thin!
I have a thin one off a diahatsu charade, and its a 10" prob 50mm deep...it blows craploads of air! I upgraded the ma70 cooling system with the use of this as the aricon fan. My alternator doesnt like it when the 2 big cooling fans and the ac one are on all at once!

My bad......I just Googled Davies Craig and the thinest I could fine is 50mm, I must have been thinking of a standard fan I found on a car at a wreckers, but I can't remember the make and model now.
My apologies.
Mitch.
