**Official Toymods Cruise: Burragorang Lookout**
|
Sat, 28 August 2004 13:44
|
|
Time: 9:30 meet, 10am departure.
When: Sunday, 19th September.
Where: Bunnings Car Park, Camden Valley Way, The Cross Roads (approx. 3Km south f Liverpool)
Destination: Burragorang Lookout for a BBQ lunch, maybe a kick of a footy etc, then the scenic route home through Picton.
Well it's been a while since we've had a nice sunday BBQ lunch cruise (or any cruise for that matter ), and nor have we been anywhere new for a while, so we're going somewhere new.
We'll do the usual meet & greet at 9:30, where I should also have some maps to hand out, then leaving at 10am we'll make our way along Camden Valley Way. This takes us west then south, where we take the Camden Bypass down to Burragorang Rd, which is a nice long country road leading to our lunch stop.
We'll fire up the barbie, burn a few snags & have a good old baggin' braggin' & bench racin' session.
Once we've had our fill, we'll pack up & start heading back up Barragorang Rd but we'll turn off at Barkers Lodge Rd, heading south, & follow that down to Picton.
Once we've had a bit of a refresher stop we'll head north out of Picton, towards Camden, maybe checking out Old Razorback Rd (with a name like that it's gotta be good! ) and depending on what time it is find a suitable fast food establishment to have dinner.
Don't forget to fill up with petrol, & bring along your CBs.

Pretty sure I'll be there Joel as my trip to Canberra that weekend is probably off the cards.. I might be best trying to ride along with someone though as the Corolla isn't in best health at the moment

I can't make it first up, but I may be able to catch up later though. On the corners though, not on the straights, I have to get used to FWD & only 66kW again hopefully
Where are you going to be stopping?

Josh - Did you mean from the meeting point to the picnic spot, or from the Hills area to the meeting point?
The meeting point is about 15 minutes past Liverpool (just stay on the Hume Hwy until you reach the Crossroads). From there to the destination (Burragorang Lookout) I'm a little iffy on how long it will take.. When I've driven out there before it's been on a weekday and I haven't had to face Sunday drivers.. I wouldn't imagine it should take more than an hour and a half though. The return route could be a little longer but that's half the fun.
Steve - The only real stop that's planned is going to be the lunch break out at the lookout.. Should hopefully provide a few nice hours of relaxation (I also spied a kiddies swing set when I went out there last, so I'm sure that at least a couple of Toymodders would be up for a little bit of public embarrassment )
Michael - Come along!! I want to see your Corolla gooooooo..!
Just a reminder everyone, it is actually a National Park area, so bring along some spare change to purchase a parking ticket (if you don't want to risk a fine).

Hahaha... don't you mean transport and competitive?
We're not actually going THROUGH the National Park, it's just that the place we're stopping at is operated by the NPWS (hence the parking fee). I would think a refuel at Narellan (before the road up to Burragorang Lookout) would give you plenty of juice to get up there and back through to a servo at Picton afterwards (fuel choice may be limited there though - BYO octane booster ).
But, well... If you're not allowed to come...

Looks like you will be cruising through my back yard!! Though celica isnt finished so i will have to bring the subaru.
Burragorang Rd isnt a bad Rd especially in the arvo when everyone is trying to get home, it turns into a bit of a race track with a nice high speed S bend just before you hit the Oaks.
Old Razorback Rd is a tight little number. You just have to hope no one is heading back in the other direction. Also hope no one goes over the edge.
I will be meeting you on Burragorang Rd. Looking forward to seeing yas out there!

liverpool, M5 turn off, narellan, camden, i think 'the oaks' has a petrol station. i vaguely remember there IS a servo near the lookout (or near the hill down 'into' the valley, can't remember the name of the locality there)
you can pick up a jerry can from my place if ya want
i might come for the start of the cruise, as i'm heading out there anyways..
Cya, Stewart
IRA11Y wrote on Wed, 15 September 2004 16:40 | getting to camden isnt the issue its the rest of the cruise .. if there is no service station for over 200kms i will run out of fuel mid cruise, i.e if the cruise through national park from station to station is longer than 200kms, i am screwed.
heres a rough idea on what my fuel consumption is.... Blacktown to Camden last friday night with some heavy sections of traffic but most of the time cruising and 3 or 4 spirited sessions meant I used quarter of a tank.... one way!
so if im cruising 50% of the time with a few quick blasts the other 50% I wont get 200kms out of a tank.

yeah, coming back from the oaks down the 'old coal road' onto the straight is a favourite place for young kids to lose their lives at high speed , excellent runup down the hill
i'm glad someone mentioned that ORR is tight.. it's bad enough riding a bicycle down there at speed , and have had a few close calls (as well as friends go off!!) the main road is ok, and higher speed limit, but again, you don't wanna come off
razorback lookout is good on a clear day (and at night when there are bushfires...)

G'day Lucas - Food (generally sausage sandwiches) will be available on the day for a small cost. If you want to BYO then there shouldn't be any drama with that, but we'll be bringing along a BBQ to cook the food up for everyone anyway..

Hopefully there won't be any problem finding the meeting point tomorrow morning, but here's a little map ('cos I know how much people like pictures )
The blue line assumes you're heading down the Hume Highway from Liverpool. After you veer right at the Cross-Roads, you turn left into Beech Rd. You will see a row of bushes etc on your left, and you need to take the first car-park entry that you see on the left (sign posted Bunnings). Once in that car-park, take the first left turn, then left again and that will be the car-park we're meeting in.
Lucas - Which area are you coming from? (I might be able to help out better with general directions for getting there).
Anyway, my mobile number is 0409 824 873 in case anyone gets lost in the morning.

The M5 route

Another route. If you are headed south on the M5 you will pass under Beach Road, keep to the left and then take next exit. Get off here at Camden Valley Way, turning left again. Then drive about 400m (not drag strip) up to the first set of traffic lights and turn right, thats Beach Rd at Bunnings. Hope to make it (family commitments) as its less than a kilometer from my place. If not, I'll try to pop in and say hi at the start.
Cheers, Kevin

well it was a pretty good days driving and i did enjoy it quite a bit until the hail started to belt down at the end. So i'd just like to share a few words of wisdom....
joel - "well the weather held out after all"
"so offically the weather responsibility ends here?"
paul - "what colour are the clouds?"
"black"
"you have to worry when they are brown because that means hail"
paul - "i think its hailing guys"
startlet dude- "the servo has a roof!"

Yes, it was quite an enjoyable drive. I'm glad a few of the local guys who came along were able to take us along some more interesting roads than what we had originally planned. A good mix of cars helped made it an interesting day as well.
Yes the hail at the end of the day sucked, but at least it was fairly minor.. I don't think there's going to be any damage as a result.
Other quotes:
Glen - "That engine doesn't sound too good"
Me - "Just close the bonnet.."
Will put some photos up soon..

Hey forgot to say thanks heaps Joel for organising this cruise. It was a nice change for us to not have to travel so far for the cruise meeting point. It was a good day. Plus we'd both like to say what a good effort it was for those who did have to travel as much as we normally have to, yay for you supporting the club (ie. lucus and company, Joel and family, and Glen )
