hey all,
ive got twin 40mm dellorto carbs on my 2tg hybrid (1812cc)
the chokes used in the carbs neck it down to 32mm, i thought thats a bit small, whats everybody else running?

what kind of redline are you looking at, being realistic? with a conservative 6000rpm redline, my Dellorto book* recommends starting with around 35mm chokes. Other recommended starting points are 180 main air correctors, 35mm chokes * 4 = 140 main jets, or if you go bigger than 35mm, multiply by 4.2 instead, eg. 36mm * 4.2 = 151.2, round it up to 155. Idle jets should be 60s. These are all of course only starting points, and are the book's recommendations, not mine...

what engine capacity is that for?
the cams that are in it should be prodcuing some real good power up to about 7500rpm so the more i can get out of the carbs, the better!

that was assuming around 450cc per cylinder. Perhaps 37-38mm chokes if you're revving it that hard, but can you even get chokes that big for 40mm DHLAs?

Unfortunately 45mm DHLAs and especially DCOEs are stupidly more expensive than 40mm, not to mention way harder to find. Could you perhaps adapt a set of 20v blacktop throttles instead, and run EFI? (yes, lots more $$)

I still reckon tune it for where you'll be driving it most of the time. 7500rpm is fine on a race track, but it's not your typical commuting style. Smaller chokes should make it noticeably more pleasant at everyday engine speeds.

edit: found this on ebay... it's not the book I have, but it might be useful. also this. note the price!
