88' Soarer Auto Trans Question? Mon, 30 August 2004 03:48 Go to next message
Gday

I have an 88 Soarer, The 2L twin turbo, 1GGTE engine with an auto transmission (Stock standard). On a side note, what is the auto tranny called?

The extension housing seal on the tranny is leaking and I have been having trouble getting the part. Can anyone tell me the part number, or alternatively who I can speak to to get the seal??

Did the same auto come in any supra's?

Thanks in advanced.

yeah supras had the same. Itd be an A340E

Extension housing - you mean the bellhousing? What side of it - gearbox or motor?

These arent a 2 piece box!

If its leaking at the front itd be either your gearbox front seal, or your motor rear seal...
on a side note, the loctite brand blue gasket goo is great for sealing up boxes.

Thanks for that.

I meant the rear end of the tranny, where the prop goes in. I was pretty sure it was called the extension housing. In my old ford auto (blasphemy!) they used a large rubber ring piece for the sealing.

What year supra were they released in?

Cheers!

I had a look at the seal, it appears to be a "non-perishable" item. Non of the parts stores I spoke to had the rear seal listed, and I couldn't get the bugger out. Its mostly metal so I suppose that makes sense.

I just ended up silastic'ing and greasing it up. Seems to have worked.

Tim

- We did our best, let silastic do the rest.

Its a normal seal with a metal casing.
Should cost 5-10 dollars at almost any auto shop.

Its the same as almost EVERY 1988 onwards RWD Toyota
