hi guys,
I've got some brake pads that i want to change in my calipers. My current setup is a pair of 4 spot FC3S Mazda ones, and i haven't changed them in about 2 yrs.
What is the method of doing this?
easy or hard? i haven't had the chance to look at it yet, so any help would be appreciated
thanks

Its a piece of piss. Pull out the 2 pins, rip out the pads and slot in the new ones.

Thats it?
how do these pins lock the pads in?
Just on a side note, how much do EBC 'black' pads retail for?

dude, when i was a mechanic i did millions of brakepad swaps... not sure if you need to know everything but im bored at work...
firstly pull out the old pads. shouldnt be too hard.
Some pistons (not many) are on a thread and have to be wound back. most though need only be pushed back. A big set of multigrips or a screw driver can do this.
Make sure you crack the bleed nipple first.
Clean and lube up the slides so they operate freely
once you have finished the whole swap wash everthing with water cause brake fluid eats paint! make sure there is enough fluid in the master cylinder and pump the brake pedal slowly to get pressure back in the lines. then get someone to hold there foot on the brake and crack a nipple which will allow the pedal to go down and air to be bled out. then tighten up the nipple and get them to pump the brake slowly again until it is firm. do this three or four times or until it is a good pedal.
do both sides. you should start on the side which is furthest away from the master cyl.
the discs must be super clean also before you bed in the brakes. try not to get anything on them or the pads. if you do then clean them well.
to bed in pads you need to drive up to around 60ks then apply the brake normally until you slow down to 5ks. then speed up and do again for around ten times altogether. leave around 100 metres between applications of the brake. this allows the brakes to stay reasonably cool cause if you overheat them during bedding them in they will never be very good.
go easy on them for a few days.
hope this helps!

how spoonfed do u need to be? seriously?
go have a look at your calipers and see how the pins work, then pick up the phone and call someone who sells EBC brake pads and ask them for a price.

I have seen the general calipers themsleves PRIOR to purchasing my brake pads so I wouldn't have taken notice of how it all works.
I'm at work so wouldn't these forums be an appropriate place to ask before i get home to have a look? Or is it too much to ask for a general direction of how to go about it?
Mate, im sorry if you seem to know everything, maybe i should have registered here knowing what you know?
Chr!s - thank you for clarifying

These calipers also have a bunch of wire springy type things attached to the pins which hold the pads in.
As far as I can see only one of them is really important, that's the one which stops the two big pins falling out. Not sure what the other two do, but I fiddled with them until they sat in properly.

FYI, (and if you read my first post PROPERLY- something you would assume if you are such a big player on these forums) I said I have ALREADY got these brake pads to be fitted.
I asked later on if anyone knew how much these pads retail for because i purchased them 2nd hand and wanted to get a rough idea of how much i saved. There something wrong with that?

----that just says it all
AND also i didn't ask for your response. You chose to so there is no reason why I should 'consider the time of people who set up these forums'
arguing for the sake of arguing? woah...considering my time of genuinly enquiring about something and having people prick my back for it?
have a good one too d00d
Henn - thanks for that. I'll PM you shall i have any troubles

The 2 extra springs are just that, they are springs to hold the pads apart.

Steve,
Good point on the size of the retaining wire. Never thought of it before, but a bit of overkill never goes astray.
I left the anti-squeal (I think) backing plates in. The wire things I was talking about are what hold the pads apart as pointed out by Cool1.
It really isn't difficult to work on these calipers, I just pulled them apart and put everything back how I found it.
