no suspension travel Tue, 31 August 2004 08:12 Go to next message
ive got lowered springs in my TA22, not mega low, i think about an inch or so under stock. when the suspension is at full droop, the springs in the rear are a bit sloppy in their mounts, ie. i can almost pull them out of the car by hand.
the rear suspension only has about 3cm of droop in it, that is to say, if i jack up the back of the car and let it down onto chassis stands, the wheels only droop ~3cm when i take the jack out from under the diff.
i have K-Mac shocks and the above mentioned springs are K-mac also, and the bushes are all nolathane.

idealy id want the car to go about another inch or so lower at the back than it currently is, (2" lower than stock) but i'm worried that this lack of travel might be fucking up the roadholding ability.

will shorter stroke shock absorbers help fix these problems? if so, any recomended units/part numbers?
if not, what could i do?

Yes, you need shorter shocks to go with your shorter springs. Talk to a suspension shop about this.

try sticky tapeing some rubber bands from the diff to the chassis Laughing Laughing . also use some paper mache to give that extra bit of strength Laughing Razz

Agree with Norbie. Disagree with Brett. Shocked Rear dampers are pretty basic things, a competent suspension shop should be able to cross-reference a solution for you.

I'd be more concerned about bump travel/bump stop clearance. You could modify the bmp stops if this becomes an issue. 2" down with an acceptably firm spring rate shouldn't be a problem.

Yep. Sure will. Most people don't quiote understand that mega low cars may look cool to some, but unless the WHOLE SUSPENSION SYSTEM (including the chassis) is engineered as such, the ride, handling and geometry will be worse than a slightly higher but better engineered system.

Basically.

Yeah
I lowewred the wagon about 4 inches or so from stock. Now its only got about 1.5 inches of travel.

Big pot holes are a problem.

It has custom King Springs, and with the stock shocks the rear springs I think did almost fall out. Now it has koni reds. They droop about 7cm when not under load (ie chassis jacked). I wouldn't worry to much about the droop unless they can come right out. If the shock length is shorter than the standing spring lenh you will be right.
