Either a faulty wire somehwere, or your charging system sucks.

Check the connections on the alternator
Check the connections on the battery
And the earth to the block.

im thinking a short somewhere near the switches or something because it has happened with 2 engines with 2 separate alt etc.

the charge light doesnt come on very much at all it probably ocmes on during the day but i can only notice it during the night because its so dull

Itll be a bad ground or power connetion in the dash or on the battery.
If turning your headlights on doesnt make the alt light come on, its not an alternator/regulator problem.

Yeah I vote bad earth too. It's easy enough to check if the charging system is the problem though, just put a multimeter on the battery while the engine is running and heater is on; as long as the voltage is well over 12v (ideally more like 13.5v) it's all good. Smile

I recently had electrical problems with my RA28. My charge light would come on when I turned the fan on and all my gauges were reading incorrectly. I found the problem to be an old rusty fuse in the fuse box which fed the whole dash.

Try all the fuses and make sure they are firmly in place as well.
