wierd aircon problem (91 lux) Thu, 02 September 2004 02:46 Go to next message
I've got this wierd problem with my aircon in my 91 lux (running petrol 22r engine)

Basically when you turn the a/c on, and the car is idling, it will bounce from 1050rpm (normal) up to about 1500rpm and back again. Turn off the aircon and it goes away. Turn it back on and it looks like I'm geeing up the car next to me for a race Embarassed

When driving the aircon works fine. This only happens when I'm idling.

Dad seems to think there's some valve that ups the idle a bit when the aircon is turned on that's not working correctly. We're yet to put a carby kit on to replace the seals - it's on the to do list

Will the carby kit fix it?
Anyone got any ideas what's wrong/where I should be looking?

My first car was carby, and when I turned the aircon on the idle went all over the place.
Up, down, up down, up down etc.

Had the carby rebuilt, and it was perfect after that.

you have airleak somewhere associated with the idle-up valve- trace out from teh solenoid on the carb that does the idle up when the aircon turns on

agreed
the idle should only jump up when the compressor is running(which isnt all the time)
so i would do as thechuckster suggested, leak test Smile

I had a ford with a similare problem with its idle-up valve.

If you haven't fixed this yet I have a workshop manual for the 22r(hilux) it might have more info in it, if you need it.

cheers
