I've got this wierd problem with my aircon in my 91 lux (running petrol 22r engine)

Basically when you turn the a/c on, and the car is idling, it will bounce from 1050rpm (normal) up to about 1500rpm and back again. Turn off the aircon and it goes away. Turn it back on and it looks like I'm geeing up the car next to me for a race

When driving the aircon works fine. This only happens when I'm idling.

Dad seems to think there's some valve that ups the idle a bit when the aircon is turned on that's not working correctly. We're yet to put a carby kit on to replace the seals - it's on the to do list

Will the carby kit fix it?
Anyone got any ideas what's wrong/where I should be looking?

agreed
the idle should only jump up when the compressor is running(which isnt all the time)
so i would do as thechuckster suggested, leak test
