2t constantly stalls. why? Thu, 02 September 2004 12:35 Go to next message
Over the last 2-3 weeks idle began to bounce from 800-1000rpm. Have it set at 900.

Then this week set at 900 idle the variation is that bad it actually stalls. I have increased idle to 1700 rpm to compensate so i can do the 5min drive to work and back each day.

Fuel is good....fuel filter brand new since problem occured...new spark plugs/leads/coil, Rebuilt and cleaned carby.

what im thinking is a valve problem of some sort?

any other possibilities before i pay for a mechanic to check it out?

Cheers

Nathan

Have you checked the inlet manifold bolts to make sure they are tight?

sounds like an air leak somewhere.
check all your pipes, and fpr hose.

what you can do is while car running, accelerate so it doesnt stall, cover carby properly and our water around the carby base and intake mani and check for bubbles. if you see bubbles then air leak.

have you checked compression? especially on 1st cyl. when you checked the plugs none had oil or any liquid residue?

tightened intake manifold - was a bit loose - changing for new gasket this weekend as precaution.

compression test was even across all cylinders.

problem turned out to be i left the hose clamp off the pcv valve Very Happy just nevr noticed it till my father in law pointed it out. Always takes a fresh set of eyes.

replacing all air hosess this weekend to be safe as there is still a slight jumping in idle but not enough to stall or warrant a 17-1800 rpm idle to stay alive.

thanks heaps guys.

on another note .... tapping that increases with rpm's? tappet adjustment? or possibly timing chain tension?

Cheers

Nathan
