Hi,
Does anyone have any contacts that are able to machine alloy?
Id like to get some hub-centric wheel spacers made up, but the few places that i have found that will do it want around $150 Each!!!!!!! almost cheaper to get new wheels!
this is the kind of thing i want to machine up.. it honestly doesnt look too complicated..

And I spoke to my friend who works at a machinist, he reckons $70-$100 each, depending on how many you get.

I might be able to get something knocked up for you if you supply the alloy and studs.

Depends how long it takes on the lathe. But if you get the alloy the right thickness and the correct studs, the job is already half done.
Or I can just put you onto a workshop that will be able to do the same if you take him the alloy and the studs.

call an engineer or rta tech enquiries. spacers are illegal because by reducing the amount of nut threads clamping the wheels on, you're essentially making the car less safe. with these bolt on spacers, that is no longer an issue, and could probably be certified. however, i believe increasing lateral loading on bearings is also a concern. let us know if you do call, i'm interested in a response. i might fire an email off to the rta myself

Adaptors like these will increase the track width considerably (well by the width of the two spacers added together), you'd have to fit rims with a larger positive offset (larger by the width of each spacer) to compensate.
But you probably already knew that!

hemi twofifteen turbo wrote on Fri, 03 September 2004 16:32 | I think it's more about the track issues which would
require the engineering, in which case as stated earlier
just adjust the offset of the rim to compensate. On
paper it would not take much for an engineer to approve.
|
Just go try it then and see how far you get.

Quote: | I bought a 280ZX in Sydney that had 15 inch 300Z wheels which scrubbed on the struts so the guy fitted spacers NOT Adapters, he had an accident and had to sell his good car to pay the legal fees. I think we found the wheels were held on by just four threads. The guy failed to realise you can buy wheel studs long and short...2 cents..
|
that is really dangerous, he may as well have glued or paper mached the wheels on
