tonight i was pulled over for a random breath test, then after i pulled out from it anoughter cop car started to follow me and i was doin the speed limit, then he pulls me over and tells me that my drivers side tyre looks bald Rolling Eyes then he cheaked it out and wrote me out a defect notice for it.
i then pulled into macca's to checkout this tyre and it still has about 2mm befor it gets to the wear limit indicators Mad
Is it legal to pull someone over just to defect them? he didnt do a breath test or anything else, and he told me that was the only reason he had pulled me over.

im pretty sure they can...if it's obviously not roadworthy. If you know that it's not below the legal tread limit, contest the fine Very Happy

Go down to the station ASAP, and get someone in charge to check it out

From what I've heard it's not worth it. Just cough up the $50, take it over the pits, and have done with it (assuming the car is otherwise legal).

Apparently a vehicle inspection is the only way to get a yellow sticker off a car regardless of whether the sticker was earned or not - at least, some old lady wrote in to Road Patrol saying a cop had pulled her over and given her a sticker for having 'window tinting too dark'. He didn't even take off his sunglasses to make this assessment. Despite this, she still had to take it over the pits (and did so, without changing anything, and passed). Moral of the story: The system is fckuked.

I had two cops on motorbikes do the exact same tyre thing, they said my rear tyres were worn below the limit. I just remained polite, hopped out of the car, found the wear indicators and pointed out that there was still a couple of mm left in the tread. It took a few minutes of the cop running his hand over the tyre, and looking at it to finally agree.

If you know nothing is wrong with your car, don't be intimidated, remain polite and point out the facts. If you are going to get out of the car, ask them if it is ok first as unless they ask you to get out they sometimes freak out if you just jump out of the car.

i had the car passed today Cool it was also alittle low but nothing else was worng with it, the cop ticked the box on the defect notice to make me get a full inspection instead of just a part inspection Rolling Eyes i have the tyre that was on the car (the inspection guy said it was still fine)and will be taking it to the police station and showing the person in charge

Take that tyre and tell em to shove it up their arse, f@#$king idiot, the bad thing is, nothing will be said to the officer who defected you.

Hope it works out dude.

Cheers
