carby cleaner problems Sat, 04 September 2004 00:00 Go to next message
I've recently got my secondaries on my 2T carb working because the mechanism wasnt working properly. So ive just wrapped some wire around it so now it works but is extremely dirty cause it hasnt been used for ages. THerfore we put heaps of carby cleaner down it and now it wont rev high and hesitates and sorta struggles. Is this just the carby cleaner ( ive heard of thius happening to other cars) or shouldn't i have placed the wire on cause when u plant the pedal the secondary is engaged straight away?? cheers

i dont think there is such thing as secondarys on a 2T carb nick, i could be wrong but, i thought it was a problem on mine when i had my 2T in and it not opening, but i think its just the automatic choke mate, if you have this open while you drive your car its gonna want to stall. Unlike the 2TGs they have a manual choke which you have to set up yourself via cable, so on cold days it helps it start if it doesnt already. I could have a look at it for you, next time your over this way.

cheers.

You just have to learn how to drive it.
I had the same problem with my 18R and also wired it up.
The secondary throat wont pull fuel through until there is enough vaccume (=high revs), so you cant open it until then, and when you do you have to do it slowly.
This is the way a carb'ed car should be driven anyway.

I got used to it, but even then, it still is quite annoying when blasting through the hills, so i changed to a 34ADM weber off a falcon.

2t aisin carby does have vaccum activated secondaries.

same problem i only just got mine going.

in the secondary chamber you will notice a small hole (pin head or smaller) just below the jet on the side closest to the valve cover.

as air passes past it creates a vaccum in the diaphgram next to the choke housing.

this diaphgram lifts the secondary lever to realease the secondary butterfly.

secondary opens according to accelerator position and the amount the lever is lifted by the diaphgram.

wiring open means the secondary will come on at a certain throtle position and not when under a certain load ie higher revs.

Hope this helps

Nathan

Carb cleaner will make the engine run bad for a few seconds (carb cleaner is not the same as fuel), but after 15 seconds it should be cleared and the engine will run normal again.

If you have problems with the carb, you had best take the whole thing off, pull it apart, read about carbs in books, and reassemble after you know how every part works.

PS. My 2T-G uses a manual choke cable, to operate the "cold start" function, not realy a choke.

The 2T and 3T uses a auto choke (hot air operated in 2T, electric in 3T), but many have been converted to manual choke.
