hilux diff model choices for ra40

well i decided to go hunting down a diff to do the conversion on the weekend but the first wrecker that i went to (that specialises in toyote hilux's) said they haven't have RN40 series hilux's in for over 15 months, but they have LN60 series ones and plenty of them.
So is this also an approprite diff to fit into the RA40 or does it definately have to be the RN40 series.
Also I wasn't aware of how much of the diff i needed so they quoted me the for the whole assembly (included drums handbrake cable housing and centre). How much of this do I really need cos they said it would be about 400 dollars which was more than i expected.
From what i read from GiantTomatoe's website (and Cool1's post) if i was to convert the diff straight away to have the supra brakes on it then i would get all the brake components from the supra and just the housing and axles (no centre because that would be the wrong ratio and setup or handbrake cable) from the hilux.
Argh these things i have never attempted to play with before...so confusing.

they are ALL g series in the hiluxs AND hiaces. UNtil you come up to 95+ models.
ONly thing you have to be wary of is Ratio and LSD.

yeah thanks V8_MA61 i found that out, the main thing that changes appears to be the ratio (they all seem to be 2 pinion open wheelers though rather than 4 pinion lsd), i suppose my main concern is if i got one of these LN60 model ones that it would still be the same width, i will have to wait till next weekend. am i right in what parts i need from the diff rather than the whole lot though to save a bit of dosh?

late model IFS ones are LSD's, but are A centres and are expensive as fuck! Not of use for you if you want a liveaxle diff conversion. Id source an open wheeler with your desired ratio and then buy and aftermarket LSD like i am doing with my ma70 rear.
