i'm not sure on the rules, but i was with my mate who got out of a defect from a copper once, i simply said.."it's the import engine, i havn't altered the capacity, # of cylinders, no modifications to the mounts/brackets, same family of engine 4A, it's not forced induction" and the copper told him he had a point, and had a quick check on rego..etc..and left..

My JDM coupe obviously had a GE in it, but i still haven't got around to getting that plated for the GZE Rolling Eyes ..a copper pulled me over and had a look under my bonnet, (i have the 4AGE front covers on the ZE) he asked if i had a mod plate for the 4AGE, i pointed him the direction of my Toyota Compliance plate (which had 4AGE on it) and he just nodded and went on his way Laughing

In Qld, yes ... I was told the general rule is that if your car did not come with the particular motor model as standard, you will need to get it engineered.

Ie. Australian sprinters (except GTV's) never had EFI and never came with a twincam engine. If you fit a 4AG, then you will need to get it engineered.

Of course, you can get away without engineering the car provided the inspector is clueless.

But I believe that it voids your insurance policy if you ever have an accident and are found out ...

All i needed was a blue slip and a change of Engine number, because motor is the same, 4a (1600)to 4a(1600), thats all they were worried about. In NSW buy the way.

I know 3 other 4ag sprinter (in NSW) with no engineers report, been insured for a few yrs now, never claimed thou.

Cheers

Steve
