ONLY KIDDING Razz

I thought you guys might like to hear about the crowns second visit to AIR-following the first visit with na 11.65 recorded.

Yesterday I took the crown to the track again, with the only mods being-
A little more boost (1.2 bar) and a little less timing (I was intending to creep the timing up each run while checking the plugs-but didn't bother in the end-I'll do that next time)
All the rear end bushes replaced with urethane to combat the wobble it got up last time.
Anyway, it was running really well, and I'm still getting a handle how hard I can drive it off the line. The rear end was solid a rock at speed so the stability problems were solved by the bushes.
It was funny being next to guys in V8s with open extractors in the staging areas as the only way I could tell the car was running was to watch the needle on the boost guage or fuel pressure guage-even better though was then lining up and wiping them off the track.......

Run 1 (Simex 225/75 light truck)
60ft 1.946
ET 11.553
MPH 125.26
A good start and confirmed the car was in good shape
(whipped a 355 stroker VN-it sounded and looked killer)

Run 2 (Simex 225/75 light truck)
60ft 1.857
ET 11.378
MPH 124.51
I figured that surely the simex tyres couldn't go much faster than this!
(ran a crappy XB V8-he ran about 15)

Run 3 (Simex 225/75 light truck)
60ft 1.858
ET 11.807
MPH 122.88
(ran an WRX STI but think he busted something at about half track)
I also tried more gas after the 60ft mark and it went up in smoke pretty badly-as shown by the 11.88.

Seeing as I figured I'd reached the limit of the simex light turck tyres, it was time to put my money where my mouth was and put the set of hand-me down McReary DOT treaded street/race tyres on it.
They hadn't been on a car in 2 years so I gave them a good roasting in the burnout to get them nice and sticky. I then gave it a little stall on the line-but only about 1500 rpm to make sure I didn't spin out of the hole. Once rolling and about past the 60ft mark I gave it a lot more than I had with the radials and the tyres hung on no worries at all. By half track I knew the run was a LOT faster.

Run 4 (McRearey G-60 Road Star treaded DOT X-ply)
60ft 1.796
ET 11.049 Very Happy
MPH 125.12

I was in the last pairing for the day so there wasn't a chance to go again. Next visit I'll get some launching practice in and find out how hard I can go on these tyres.

SO CLOSE TO A TEN IT'S NOT FUNNY!!! It's not a bother though, as to get that close on the first run with sticky tyres ever and only the packages 6th run down the strip tells me a ten isn't far away.

I'll post some pics up tomorrow.

Sean

Hey chris, I run the tyres at about 20 psi-although how much that actually helps me I'm not sure, as I havent run them any higher than that at the strip. The simex compound seems to be relatively sticky actually, and also when warmed up gets better. However when you REALLY roast them they go the other way and get a touch slick.

Turns out that the datalog showed that the injectors are at 100%, meaning I need to get the proper short runner intake setup and second set of injectors happening before I wind it up much further-although with just a small increase in aggression off the line it'll go 10 seconds no worries at the current boost level (I may actually back it off a touch and increase the timing though).

The trans from MV autos is great-I recommend it to anyone considering a big power supra, soarer or anything requiring an A340 trans upgrade-bloody faultless.

Sean

Once again, my lack of net storage is embarrasing, but if anyone would be so kind as to host a couple of pics I'd be most appreciative.

thanks mate, I will have to try that when I eventually get to the drags Rolling Eyes

Just a couple of questions, how much does this car weigh? It doesn't look really light from the pics I have seen. And how much power approximately are you putting through the auto? I have an A340e bolted to my 1jz and would like to know the capabilities of it. And I think MV Automatics have their shift kits in numbers like 1, 1.5 & 2. If this is correct, which one did you get?

thanks again
Chris
