excessive use of the CAPS-LOCK key can also be a contributor?
seriously: make sure you rear brakes are up to scratch... maybe your front is doing all the work.
you might want to re-think your front brake pad material (can U get greenstuff for stock TA brakes?)
... and possibly installing the XT130 or even hilux calipers on a XT130 strut (if it would fit??).

same problem in my 280ZX RB25DTT Use Toyota High Ace four spot calipers, also before driving fast and furious you should have removed the rotors and machined them and put new pads all round. if you have disc-drum combo you are plain nuts. All go no stop means one day we will see you on the 7 Nightly news wrapped around a tree.

~70% of the braking effort is effected at the front of the car, where the static weight is heavier and the inertial force shifts dynamic weight during deceleration.
There's nothing wrong with adequately sized rear drums, greater improvements can be achieved by upgrading the front brakes.
How does it stop? Drive a TA22 with the Hilux/Pug/Corona upgrade and stock drums, let me know if (and why) you feel you need more than that.

Exactly right, but the main problem with, and has always been is that of heat rejection.
Drums actaully can work better than discs initially and uinder certain conditions, but get them hot and their effectiveness starts to drop dramatically 'cos they can't get rid of the built up heat.
For a basic city car not involved in motorsport or excessive fanging, upgraded fronts and stock rears (with the correct balance) are a great start and better than nothing, but a proper MATCHED disc/disc combo will always win hands down.

So replaced with standard parts? Then there's no problem.. you'd need to buy the new struts. They bolt to the standard steering arm, so all the steering linkages, idler, pitman, etc. are common and will not need to be changed.
Adjustable camber top mount can be fitted to the new strut/insert.

I have HiLux 4spot brakes on mine, and I got the car smoking with hard braking (at the race track). Tyre smoke that was, the brakes were fine. Got drums on the back also.
