2JZ engine mounts - COMPLETE!! (almost) Thu, 23 May 2002 10:01 Go to next message
Here it is folks.... my 2JZ engine mounts are pretty much done. The crossmember brackets are pretty straightforward in design, and are constructed out of 3mm plate steel. They are currently tack-welded in place; I have to remove the crossmember so they can be properly welded together.

Note that a 1JZ block was lowered into the engine bay and the brackets were constructed around it. We took a lot of measurements before we started, so the 2JZ should just drop in once the welding is finished!

The rubber blocks are from an 80 series diesel Landcruiser. These were chosen for their sturdy design and long studs. The original 5M rubber blocks are about the right size, but unfortunately the stud is about 5mm too short to work properly with the Aristo engine mounts, so I couldn't use them. Sad

HUGE thanks to Pete (aka TRD-Kingswood) who donated a large chunk of his time on Sunday to do this job. Top work mate! Smile

Almost is the keyword!! You better have that crossmember out so i can weld them up properly this year some time.

When you want to drop it off, just give me a call.

Damn, that 1J looks sooo loooong with the head off. And it's such a looong engine bay too!

Nice work, can't wait to see the results.

Nice mounts. You used the original cast top half and refabbed the lower half.

When we fitted the 1JZ into the VL I did the opposite. I used the original chassis mounts and fabricated new top halfs to suit the VL engine rubbers.

It must have been easy with a trial fit block in the car. Lucky you.

Peter deserves some credit - he is an excellent ambassador for 1JZ's.
