fyi : driving up the great western highway through the mountinas SUCKS - why would you want to drive up there, on purpose, on a weekend, for fun ?
much more interesting to drive up bells or something, turn at mt vic and cut accross to katoomba

man,
the great western hwy is a suckful road. theres roadworks everywhere, speed zones are all over the shop, and the traffic sucks.
bells is smoother, has 100kmh zones, is nice and windy, and has HEAPS less trafic.
just my 2c - but i wouldnt want to cruise up GWH! its like going for a cruise along paramatta rd on sat morning

Now that is a cruise up old bathurst rd or springwood rd and then back own mitchells pass.
Bells liner isn't that bumpy and there will be heaps of traffic on the GWH.
Also are you going to the lakes at Wentwroth Falls if so that is a nice place.
