ViPeR's 3S-GTE SA63 Project
|

Well its not nearly finished yet, but it's slowly getting along now. Since I have lost my licence for a time period of atleast 6 months, I now have plenty of time to save my money and fix up my SA63.
The chassis I purchased from MrShin, an awesome dude, highly recommended!

Trying to find the time to pull the car apart has been difficult, particularily during the winter, rare to find a good day on the weekend that was sunny where I wasn't doing anything.

After taking more and more off it, there appears to be a bit of rust in a couple of places. The hatch was the worst item though, good thing I have a backup plan. Something along the lines of making a fiberglass copy of my ra60 one

I am curious as to how all that dust got underneath all the interior and exterior panels....
The motor I am currently buying is coming from Stu's (Classique71) ST185. Exactly what I will do with the motor is undecided and a little bit confidential.
More to come within the next couple of months.
Cheers,
James

This looks like fun - how long do you think (realistically) it's going to be off the road for? Are you doing all the modifications and work yourself? I guess 6 months is a good timeframe to do this kind of conversion.

I think within 6 months I could have the car rust free and have the 3sgte fully assembled, sitting in the engine bay. That is my goal.
The majority of the work I am doing myself. After my adventures with my RA60, I would say I have had enough experience

Thanks ViPeR_NiPPleX for posting those pics (showing some rust spots), This weekend I am going to use antirust on my SA63 to try and stop the growing fungi around the car

There is a major rust spot under the lower trim on the pass side rear quarter window. I shall take a better photo tomorrow, but if you look closely, you can kinda make it out.

whats the plans for the rust? are you gonna fix it your self?

Okay, it looks like, with any luck, the 3sgte will arrive home this saturday.
As for the rust, I am going to repair it all myself... It will be moved to my dad's factory when some shit gets moved out of there...
Spare time, well, not today.

James

Last night I took out the windscreen outta the sa63. Went thru about 4 guitar strings trying to cut the silicon. In the end I got about 3/4 the way around and just ripped the rest away.
Now I have uncovered some more potential rust, going to inspect more thoroughly after dinner.

Hey All,
My MA61 lasted after the first rebuild to the meet in Melb (where Classique blew his head gasket) but at least he could drive it not like my 5M-E now where it doesn't go anymore and is sitting on the lawn at home...
At least the ZZT231 rests in the garage as we drive the SA63 to the ground...
Oh and ViPeR_NiPPleX, please post more rust pics as my SA63 is now having holes show through the body were I didn't know that it was the spot...
Cheers.

Will try to get more rust pics up tonight, damn camera chews thru the batteries like nothing else, hence the delay.
It appears there is minor rust around the windscreen too. There was parts where the seal had broken, and water could have been sitting underneath. Mind you, the windscreen had been replaced previously, dumbass who did it didn't understand that you slide off the surrounds...
Cheers,
James

Ahhh... I completely forgot about this thread....
Well suppose it time for another update.
I now have the 3sgte in my posetion, thanks to Stu for selling it to me. Currently the head is being rebuilt by Selibas so it will hopefully return like as new. There was a concern with electrolosis and the head, but turned out to be repairable.
As far as the blue car shinny... its gonna have to be just a parts car now Too much rust that was hidden away unfortunately.
So now it's decided this will be an SA65, it's logical to use the RA65 with the F series diff standard and factory efi bits n pieces.
Anyway, I've not slept in 30 odd hours, so I'll be back soon (or later).
Cheers,
James
