Hey, maybe its just coz i cant sleep and its 1am, but i was having some thoughts:
I'm about to buy an inboard boat, with a v8 chevy and a vee drive. Imagine if the engine dies (not likely!!!) but here's a thought for you: why not chuck an old toyota engine in ? Surely it'd be cheap - theres stacks of 4age or 1g-gte engines for instance that could be used, and would use a hell of a lot less fuel.
How hard would that be? It'd be a fun project, and simpler than a car engine conversion.
And before someone posts it, yes i've seen the link with the lexus v8 boat.

4AGE in a boat? u seem to have selected the engines with the least amount of torque.
that wouldnt even pull a chiuaua out of the water
1UZ/2UZ-FE all the way
yes its been done, check out Ray Hall Turbocharging
also Dave Warby (soon to be fastest man on water) has a 2JZ-GE hydro, i think hes doing a 1JZ-GTE hydro as well.
a 2UZ-FE powered ski boat is an old man dream of mine.

they are cooled with the water u are floating on, sucked into the system via impeller pump.
or alternatively u can drive a SAINTY powered drag boat that doesnt need water cooling, it uses the poo pumped out of your pants at 200mph

Seriously, how awesome would that be. 300hp out of a 4litre v8.
I bet it'd be quiet as, and would be the most economical thing out there - you really dont know what petrol costs until you start wakeboarding!
nice!

a fella called dave swan? i forget his name on here, has a 7mge powered boat, and it keeps up to the old 286 vs and the like. Its rather a nice piece of work.
he sold his original one, and just recently bought a head off me so he can use the same setup again.

7mgte wouldnt bve a bad choice considering their head gsket probs probably made redundant due to cooler runnign temps in water
associates had a clevo/windsor ( cant remember which one) with about 800 odd @ flywheel in their boat
didnt have a prob
they put it into a rod with the custom radiator and thermo fans and decent airflow...didnt last too long
