It will help with the mid range, but do nothing in the upper range, and it will make you car rich as fuck at idle.
Prepare for a black ass end.

since increasing ve of engine by adding intake exhust would
allow more air to flow the flap should be open more anyway for any ginen RPM. Any gains this guy has achieved would most likely
be due to a slight decrease in intake resistance from the flap. But hey you don't know until you try it. I say give it a go. why would he bother writing it up unless it did something? Weather for the reasons stated or otherwise..
Don't worry about all the sealant crap as if anyones going to look at your AFM... The longest it can take you is 15 minutes
to give it a go... and 10 to put it back if it's shit.

You wont f@ck it up, i didnt check the link you sent but if its anything like altering the AFM on an ST162 its a 5 minute job, 2 mins if you have done it before. Just mark the original tooth (u will know what i mean) in black pen or similar, and be careful not to let slip else that spring will unwind! - move 1 tooth at a time.
Painless, simple, y not?
Results on the 3SGE were that it definately revved up quicker and did not choke at high RPM (prior to the mod the engine really did nothing 5500 onwards, cannot vouch for power figures but it did enable me to advance timing to 15 degrees.
Yes it will use more fuel.
if you are bored 1 weekend just try it out.
