Please Help!
I read somewhere that to remove the dash, i need to remove the instrument panel. I have attempted that and got stuck. After countless wires/harness have been unplugged from the insturments, i can still not get the instrument panel off. My best guess is that the heater has something to do with it. Anyway, would someone be able to give me info or perhaps another thread which will detail how to remove the instrument panel and to remove the dash.
Another issue is that the dahsboard is extremly worn (cracked to the shithouse). If it breaks during removal, is it possible to fix? If so, is there a rough estimate someone could give me?
Thanks

it will be the speedo cable
put your hand behind and press down on the tab on the top of where the speedo cable runs into the back of the cluster

You will have to disconnect the 3 heater/air control cables. Disconnect at the heater box! DO NOT try to get at the cables at the dash, Huge PITA if you do.

I wouldn't be too worried about disconnecting the battery... the chances of getting electrocuted by 12 volts are, well, zero.

Nuff, its been a while, but from memory, Heater tap, hot-cold flap, and demist/face/floor flap. All located on your heater box.

twelve volts isnt that powerful, unless u are using ure tongue to disconnect wires anybody could safely grab the positive and negative terminals of a 12v battery

Yep, very worthwhile safety precaution, always disconnect battery when working in the rats nest of wires under your dash, or in your console. Good young mate of mine removed a CD player from his TA22, walked up the driveway, looked back at his car and saw plumes of smoke coming from inside. A live 12 volt power feed came in contact with an earthing source, and totally fried his under dash loom. Lesson learned, disconnect battery!

From the few TA22 Celica's I have pulleed apart, the original crash pad is glued from factory! The glue is ovelapped at the top curve 20mm or so down the front and about 50mm across the top.The foam used in these crash pads is a type of formaldahyde. This foam reacts badly to any solvent. Do you really need to remove it?

The whole dash is shithouse. Basiccly it looks like crap and i want it fixed. There are a lot of cracks and fading etc. I want to get it reconditioned. So to anwser your question, yes i do want to get it off. However, when you say it reacts badly to solvent, what does that mean, and also is there anything you would suggest in removing the dash and later reattaching it?
Regards
