doing 4AGE 16v engine swap in my sprinter...
head and intake manifold have been ported and polished, and the engine has been rebuilt...
do you think i need to run an aftermarket ECU?
i have a microtech D5 which is analog which has a bad reputation with people, lol...
what recommendations do you have for an aftermarket ECU, at the same time spending as little money as possible? something of the Microtech or Wolf range? or should i ditch the idea of an aftermarket ECU?

yep if your gonna spend money on an aftermarket ECU i wouldnt bother with microtech or wolf, both will do the job but not like a haltech or motec.
you can also use an AE82 twincam ECU for your 4age if its a sprinter import motor, so you dont have to go to the trouble of finding an actual sprinter ECU.

what? how much does it cost to get a wolf or whatever installed and tuned? its probably not much more for a decent haltech. but yeah i wouldnt go aftermarket unless you plan on getting serious somewhere down the track.

i have actually heard that the AE86 and the AE82 4AGE ecu are different..i ran my AE86 one in my mates AE82 for a couple of weeks..he reckoned it went a little better, and the fuel economy importved slightly..i think it was somthing to do with injectors i think..not sure..can anyone confirm this?

Yeah they are different. AE86 RWD ECU I understand runs slightly more agressive timing as its tuned for Jap fuel.
The Aus spec AE82 would be slightly de-tuned for our shit fuel.
Thats whats i've been lead to believe anyway

ahh k, the ECU's could well be a little different. i do know they interchange tho, but obviously other people know that. i actually couldnt tell the diff between the 2 ECU's but thats just me
yeah haltech are decent, definately a class above ECU's like wolf.
