car immobilisers

my ma61 has an an aftermarket keyless entry/immobiliser installed on it, before i bought it...
now thats all very good and well, but lately, it's shit itself. the majority of the time, it doesnt work at all (as seen by a dead flashing light on my steering column) but, if i move the circuit board/box thingie (its the immobiliser itself) that hangs near the foot pedals (dodgy) the light will come back on, and i may be able to lock the car. but the locks go crazy, and the light will dier shortly after. sometimes i press the button on the keyless thing and the immobiliser just dies.
i took a lot of the dash apart, looking for bad connections and earths, but everything is okay....
except for the wiring of the damn thing. everything is cut and spliced, with black tape everywhere.
my question is, can i just take the car somewhere and they can put a new keyless entry/immobiliser in it? i want one that goes "bip bip" anyway.
or, has anyone else experienced a similar problem?
thanks for any help guys.
ps. if this belongs in tech, my apologies, and please move it someone

i have a stock alarm\keyless entry
its shit
doesnt even control the central locking
might do something about it one day...probably wont
but i'd suggest tracing each wire out of that box to its source, disconnecting it, cut the end of, strip the sheath and reconnect
or just rewire it all which is almost the same as my first suggestion

alarms are so fukt these days
no one wants to pay for a good quality alarm and get it fitted properly too
never ever get one of those 1 hr al;arm fitting jobs for say 200 bucks
if u see the mess they make under the dash then u will understand
it might work ok for a long time but if u ever have to diagnose
something under the dash u will know what i mean
to fit an alarm properly its easily 2 to 5 hrs depending what u need doin
i have ripped out so many dodgey alarms and just soldered wires back together due to fauly fukin alarm
they piss me off so much

thanks guys-
and sideshow- you're right, my wiring is an absolute disgrace, a complete fucking mess. it gave me the shits when i saw it.
but yeah, i think ill do as glen says to start with, check all the earths... then if nothing works, ill get a new one most likely...
whoever installed it fucked up my door lock switch and my hazard lights too, coz neither work.

Hi,
Could be a bad wire or connection somehwere. If it goes on and off and acts wierd when shaken, then it could be traced and fixed.
Hold the unit still and shake a wire at a time. If it's a bad connection, you should get some reaction from the unit. Also, if it's a circuit board, check that it's not cracked.
Are the wires soldered or connected with plugs?
If connected with plugs, pull each plug, put a drop of WD40 on a cotton bud and clean the contacts and the socket.
If soldered, check for poorly solered wires. It's easier to use a magnifying glass and check if the wire looks attached, via solder, or looks like its a bit loose and there's a crack around the wire. Also, solder should be shiny - too satin sort of gleam to it. If its white or matt grey, it can be a poor solder joint.
If so, get a soldering iron and touch a bit of solder onto the the tip and resolder the wire.
And, as mentioned, check that the earth (and power) connections are clean and correct voltage is getting to the unit.

ps if you have to diagnose shit you went to the wrong person in the first place!!!!!!!!!!! i can fit an immobiliser in 40 to 50 mins in a post 88 car. so if it takes more than 2 hours for a novice to do it then get someone who knows what there doing to do it.

take it how u want. but do you realise how many jobs people like me have to fix because novices have tried to fit electronics to their cars themselves then we get the blame because it takes twice as long to pull the shit out of the car because it wasn't fitted properly in the first place>? i wish there was a law against that.

How are we supposed to take it? You call one of the respected members and forum sponsors here a fool, then go on to agree with him and insinuate he's a novice for taking so long. Go look at his website and see what he does for a living before you decide to stir shit.

well i wouldn't be advertising the fact dude. it is wiring in general. i only deal in alarms/immobilisers/stereos and hands free phone kits mate, an i dont respect anyone till i see there work. i dont judge someone on their advertisement. i judge someone on their work. the person who advertised probably does more than just fit immobilisers. i am just sick of pulling retards work out of cars because they fucked it up in the first place. if people just spent the extra one hundred dollar then i wouldnt have to fix shit and nothing would fuck up because of faulty installation thats all

Fair call on not respecting others work till you've seen it, but respect works both ways and you can't take shots at them without seeing it either. Put it this way, if Sideshow recommends taking time to do something like that, just think of it as installations that don't get fucked up due to dodgy operators trying to save time.

people tinker with it themselves then blame people like me or sideshow for it not working. TAKE IT TO THE INSTALLER THEN ASK WHY IT DOESNT WORK. DONT PLAY WITH IT YOURSELF.................IF YOU DID IT TO MY WORK IT WOULD VOID THE MY WARRANTY OF A FAULTY INSTALL.

I WILL GLADLY PULL APART MY OWN INSTALL TO FIND OUT WHETHER THE EQUIPMENT IS FAULTY OR MY WIRING. IF YOU PLAY WITH IT I HAVE BETTER THINGS TO DO. THAN TRY TO FIND OUT WHETHER THEY CHANGED OR FUCKED WITH THE ORIGINAL INSTALL.

Haha, don't have a cry. The caps lock button is to the left of your keyboard. What, I didn't respond so you say something to try and get me pissed off?
If "Daddy" had paid for my car, it wouldn't have taken me so long to pay for everything now would it? Dude, to be honest, I don't give a stuff about what you say here, or how good you seem to think you are at what you do, all you've achieved tonight is to show just how well you've assumed your new position as keyboard warrior.
Lots of kisses,
Nathan xxx

just to add to information, i haven't tried to fix anything on my immobiliser yet, all ive done is added a constant power source (to my head unit) to a wire i found under the dash
and yes, my immobiliser worked for a good 2 months after i did this, then it died...
anyway, ill have a look at earths one day. then ill probably just take it in. are immobilisers and keyless entry systems expensive?

an imm. and keyless entry aren't exp. no. you already have actuators in the doors. like i said in the first place, should only take an hour to fit a new immobiliser, the door activating hook ups are all ready there. all you have to dois find earth/constant/acc/ign/and crank. (easily done with a test lead)

Ryley, only just read this thread. The immobiliser was installed by a supposed "professional". I had trouble with the box and took it to the manufacturer as the "professional" has since ceased trading. The manufacturer is Antitheft at College St in Gladesville. He did a test on the box and fixed a blown diode on the spot. I can give you the telepnone number or post it to me I will drop it over to him and post it back.

Or maybe just someone who can afford to take a little longer to ensure a neat, quality job. Just because he doesn't do it in 40 to 50 minutes doesn't mean he can't.
