Upgrading RT104/18RC/unknown gearbox (?)

G'day all,
I've got a 78 Corona RT-104, and i'm wondering about fixing it up a bit. It's got the 18r-c engine in it, runs quite nicely (the car will beat an 4l 6cyl reco'd xf falcon off the line  ). Anyway, I don't know what gearbox it has, and it seems to be making a bit of bearing noise ... Can anyone tell me how to find out what gearbox is in there ?
Secondly, what 5 speed gearboxes will fit it ? I'd be looking at a heavy-er one, since i do a lot of hard driving (pizza delivery boy).

don't know a great deal about gear boxes but i think the W50 is the only one which comes with the R series engine and they are a strong box, lot of people use them in volvo's i've noticed as an upgrade box

I think RT104's have a 4-speed box, which would be the W40. A W50 Celica 5-speed will bolt right in, and it will easily take all the abuse any 18R-C can dish out.

RT104's are 4spd so yeh, its a W40.
