icon13.gif  fuel leak and now blown turbo Sun, 12 September 2004 00:38 Go to next message
Hi,
I am in the final stages of preparation before starting my new 1jz for the first time. And I now have a fuel leak? It is coming from the banjo bolt that connects to the fuel rail. It is circled in this pic.

http://pic15.picturetrail.com/VOL568/2504442/5190386/66456300.jpg

I have tightened this up as much as I can and it still leaks? Is there something I am missing here? I don't think it could be too tight.

thanks
Chris

This might seem like a silly question but have you used new washers on it and inspected the fuel rail and banjo bolt for defects. Also you night find out the exact torgue for the banjo bolt. Hope this helps.

Yeah i was gonna suggest the same, just check that your washers are all good. It could even be a fracture in the banjo itself??

Good luck

off topic:
sorted that problem. Started the engine and it was going ok. Went to put my turbo pipes back on and dropped a bolt in the turbo inlet! Sad

Pulled the turbo off again and couldn't get the bolt out? For no reason I started wiggling the shaft and it has about 2mm of play in it and is scraping the housing! Sad

NOT A GOOD DAY!

I'm not a turbo guru but I suspect that you need to get the turbo reconditioned and the bearings and seals replaced. Now is a better time then two months time when it breaks up. Get other opinions on this before acting though because I spend most of my time on diesels.

A little off-topic, but where did that fuel filter come from? Did it come with the engine or did you put it there?

that was the one that came with the soarer engine I bought. The other one I had on the chaser engine was a little different. We decided to use this one for no real reason in particular Smile

I am thinking more along the lines of single turbo upgrade now as I can't even remember how many times I have removed these turbos now and even with a rebalance and new seals etc. they are still little ct12a's. Which is a shame because I would have liked to have a crack at the quickest stock turboed 1jz in oz Smile

Now it is time to go looking for single turbo kits Smile

You wouldn't happen to have the Chaser filter lying around would you?

Strangely enough Soarers aren't that common at wreckers, and I haven't seen a fuel filter exactly like that on any other Toyotas (eg Mk3 Supras are totally different)... but if you know of any please let me know!
