Opinions Please.

ok. well just recently my cars engine died and unfortunately it got replaced with a reconditioned engine.
Car is : 1984 Toyota Supra.
Engine Was: 5ME
Engine is : 5ME out of a cresseda.
Engine wanted : jz series
This engine has a 3 year unlimited kilometre warrenty but it's not the engine i want as it's guttless, but i spent $3000 getting it installed. (my dad payed for it so i could have my car on the road again as i wanted the JZ series engine)
n e way.
My short term mods are suspension, wheels and installation of the sound gear which i own, but will cost me $1400 to install.
Do you guys think that after i get the sound system installed i should start saving up for the JZ engine. i'm probably thinking towards the 2jz. or........ because the engine has such a long warrenty period to just keep it for now and do up the other thing i wanted to do then get the engine i want.
Sorry for the long post, but i'm stuck as to what i should do.
Thanks in advance.

Sounds pretty simple to me.
- Do you want a nice stereo? Install a nice stereo.
- Do you want a fast car? Install a 2JZ.
Or did I miss something?

Spend that $1400 on suspension mods.
Get used to your car, learn to push it to the limits, then when you can, drop the bigger engine in...

Yeah, thats kinda my plan...only I'm getting a 1UZFE...get used to the way it reacts before you go throw a wad more power into it.

maybe i should clear a few things up.
i have all the sound gear to go into the car. it's just going to cost $1400 to install the gear.
i've had the car for over a year, it's just been out of action for the last 2 months and i'm use to the power and throwing it around.
it really only needs 2 front tyres instead of a new setup.
well. the question really is...
..
install the sterio then do the engine or....
install the sterio and do all the other mods and do the other engine later down the track? (2 years)

My opinion (you asked for it!) would be ditch the stereo, spend the money on suspension, wheels & brakes & use some for the engine upgrade (if it's gonna cost 1400 just to put it in, it must be worth a few Gs).
Every car could do with better suspension, especially if you're equiping the car with a 2J. Double especially if you're gonna weigh down an already heavy car with shitloads of stereo gear.
And you may have had the car for over 1 year, but I still don't think that's quite long enough to get totally used to a cars habits.
My answer, ditch the stereo & do the other mods first.

If you must have the stereo...install it yourself, or at least the bits you can, save yourself a heap of money.
Big Worm, in reality, the car isn't really that heavy. Although it could do with less EXTRA weight, a 1300kg car isn't too heavy by todays standards.

It put on the pounds...in a big way!
The Mk3 got really big, some of the models were as much as 1700kg!! Now thats porky.
They tried really hard to strip down weight on the Mk4, stripped off a few adjustments, they even made the carpet fibres hollow! They were fighting a losing battle, seeing as they were having to add things like airbags, a bigger gearbox, bigger brakes and stuff... still, at least 100kg lighter than Mk3.

man stick with your engine! 5m is not slow put it on the race track and see if you can push it to it limits so what if it takes ages to to to higher speeds.... and engine conversions are not something that should be taken lightly its not just a matter of buying the engine!!!
no offence but if your not putting in your sysem i'm taking it that you will not be doing the convo your self either correct????
be prepared to spend more than 4 or 5 grand doing the conversion...bd4s quoated me that to do the chaser > cressida covo for me and thats with me suplying the halfcutand we know how easy this covo is!!! (i ended up doing the convo with my bro in law so i was heaps lucky)
stick with the 5m and save your money try and get 3000 dollars worth driving out of your current engine it would be an absolute waste if you pulled the engine out so soon and imagine what your dad would think..... 3g's and he's taking it out!!!
i'd disown you
the way i see it, you have a cool reliable car thats about to get a cool system get an exhaust some wheels you said your doing suspension and leave it alone!!!

i appreciate all of your input.
i think now i will do the install myself. and though it won't be a nice professional job which i was going to do. i have done 2 in the past and each one is looking better.
as for the engine. i'll think i might go with what mx83toy said. but if i were to get that new engine i'd pay my father back the $3g's, and i can get the engine and get it installed for about $4000.
like i origionally said. and i really appreciate your opinions, i am just after opinions, but will take everything onboard to make my final decision... just that when you get beaten by ford escorts it kinda puts you off. but then the 2500km young engine might have something to do with that.
thanks guys

dont be discouraged, some eskys can go F#cken hard, small + light + nicely modded 2litre engine can turn them into a little beasty.

Yes it is. Trust me.
As for the 2JZ engine conversion, if you're paying someone to do it expect to pay in excess of $10k; probably more like $15k. My conversion will probably owe me $6-7k once I'm done, and that's doing everything myself.

take it from someone that did the engine conversion thing and the big system thing.
You can't have the tunes pumping anymore and you can't drive fast anymore so what is the point doing any of it????
Well it's about being different so get out there get your quotes then get your ass into a bank and get a massive loan if need be,If you want something grab it don't take any shit
You want it and you pay for it and you are happy with it what right does anyone have bagging you about it.
I feel the need for my car to have some sort of major change (a few in mind) if not it has to go to make room for something new,I'm getting a bit bored
good luck with it

yeah. well. i decided today that i would complete the sound system myself and it should be running in the car by about 3 weeks time.
then i'll start saving up for the engine. i've been told to go with teh 1/2 cut as it might be a lil more expensive at first but saves lots of $$$ in the long run.
it is going to take about a year anyway for me to have enough money for the engine conversion so with everyone's opinions i'm kinda combining them all.
suspension and wheels are going on hold as with all the other mods for my car. i'm just going to try and save, save, save.
thanks everyone for your input. it's been greatly appreciated. i'll post pics up in about 2 weeks time when my car gets painted.
