Hey guys...sorry I wasnt sure where to post this thread...but yeah I am considering getting a new car...I used to drive an R33 skyline GTST...number plae was Rac33r ....but it was stolen from me at macquarie centre about a week ago.
So as soon as insurance comes in I am thinking of getting a cheaper car for about 6 months. I spoke to a few people..and they tell me AE86s are pretty fun cars to drive..but are hard to find?
Can't I import one..under the 15 year import rule thingy...??
Okay..wot abt this 20valve engine? How much wud that cost..!!? And also..can is it hard to source the 4AGE..or am I stuck with the 4AC...wot other diff is there between jap spec and oz spec!
Sorry..I dont know much about toyota engines...hehe..I am driving the camry at the moment..the last model..if it wasnt for its crappy suspension it wud be alright to drive..v6 pushes pretty hard..but I cant stand the body roll!! FWD is a bitch too!!
newayz..any help wud be good!!

That's a bummer...
I've seen a few Sprinters for sale on these forums and elsewhere so they might not be that hard to find...
A 20 Valve will set you back around $2000 in total... 4A-GE's are easy to find...

Rac33r...
Sprinter's are not hard to find, but hard to find in good condition. The biggest killer of them is rust, so you need to know what to look for.
THe problem with importing them is that they are quite popular everywhere.. finding one in Japan at a decent price is near impossible from what I understand.
The jap and aus specs are light years apart. If you are looking for something fun then I'd stay away from the 4AC model unless you plan to spend a fair bit on motor and suspension. The aus spec has crappy brakes and diff compared to the jap ones.
The 20V motor is not all that expensive to buy, but its not a straightforward conversion to RWD for the sprinter. Do a search through the forums and you should find lots of info. Bang for buck the 16V is a better conversion.

I would say that a bog standard Sprinter is little fun. Having owned an R33 GTST you will probably find it pretty annoying.
As a bog standard car they:
- Are slow
- Handling is un-inspiring
- Have shitty brakes
That said, with some good modification they can be brilliant little bastards and in the right hands, even better.
But if you are only planning to keep it for 6 months, Id say dont bother with a Sprinter.
Personally, I now feel like a complete sad classless git. I mean, my project car which im trying to turn into something special is your proposal for a 6 month thrash car.

hey rex kelway..sorry man..I didnt mean it like that..!! everyone has their own preference in cars..I dont know nenf abt the sprinter so I didnt really consider it to be a long term project...
I mean my car was a R33...and that was the car I was working on...but some ppl used the R33 as a stock daily driver...some old men jus driveit around like a normal sedan type family car...
sorry man..didnt mean it like that..!!
I mean ultimately I want the late model 180 ... but I think I might have to ait a while for that to happen...but I need a car now..and I was told that the Ae86 is a pretty fun car to drive wen u throw in some suspension...and work the engine a bit..so I was jus wondering if that was an option for me...
I love to drive..and fang it around the corners..hence I dont want to be stuck with a sluggy watery car for the next 6mths!!
Sorry man...I give a lot of respect to u guys that full build and work your own engines and cars...I dont have the skills to do it..!!

If it is just a car to drive for 6 months and depending on your budget, you can't go past a aus delivered EP91 with 1.3 atmo engine, 16" wheels with 205, 40 series rubber, and whiteline front and rear swaybars.......hehe Well I'm making do until I get the GZE, brakes and interior done on the sprinter!
I know....my lil starlet is gutless but you should see the look on Commonwhore drivers faces when I pull about 50 meters away through the twisty stuff ie. roundabouts!!
However....... not all roads are twisty...
Seriously though, if it is only for 6 months have some fun in a FF car for a while! Just be carefull when you jump back into a FR, I speak from exeperience with my friends RX4 with around 400hp.....gonna take it hell easy when I have the sprinter finished!
