Hi,
there have been quite differing views about these intercoolers around here. Some say they are good some say they are pathetic.

I am talking about the one in this pic on the top left called "front"

http://www.pbase.com/bassaholic55/corona

sorry not the best pic I know Smile

Now the problem is everyone says it is better to upgrade them but in my situation I can't fit a 600 X 300 intercooler in so I would have to get a custom one that is higher rather than longer. Custom ones are obviously not cheap like the generic type ones. And on top of that, I already have custom intercooler pipes made for this setup.

If I can only fit a slightly larger intercooler in there will the gains be worth the money?

thanks

P.S I intend on getting a single turbo kit now that my ct12a is not looking good.

well, it kicks the crap out of a lot of top mount intercoolers, but euqally, as far as front mounts go it's pretty ordinary. If you';re just gonna run stock boost (yeah right) it'd be fine. you'd be suprised what size intercoolers there are available out there... you may not have to go custom.

And you pay through the arse for them. If the guy is using a JZA70 intercooler he obviously doesn't have money to burn!

yeah, damn they are expensive!

definitely no money to burn here!

one thing on that site that I found interesting was when they were talking about the efficiency ranges of turbos and different size intercoolers. If I am getting a single turbo and running relatively low boost for it, then there will be less heat than stock turbos running the same boost and therefore a larger intercooler would be needed more with stock turbos than a large one.

That is what I read on that site anyway Smile

Yes you won't have as much heat to dissipate, but you also need to consider the pressure drop from the internal resistance of the intercooler. It's well known that MA70 intercoolers lose 3-4psi on a boosted 7M, and I imagine the JZA70 coolers aren't much better. There's not much point having an upgraded turbo if the air is still being squeezed through that restrictive piece of crap!
