1g-gte questions Tue, 14 September 2004 08:57 Go to next message
before i continue, i would just like to say that im new to this scene so some of the question i ask might be stupid, but its new to me Confused

goin to my question, i would like to transplant a 1g-gte in to my ra23, and i would like to do it myself ( an equally competent mate is helping), 1stly i need to find an engine.

called sss auto and they qouted me $750 without gearbox and intercooler. i would like to know if that is a bargain or i will be looking prices along that mark? would be simple to locate a gearbox and aftermarket intercooler? how do i go about locating a suitable engine, and what are the " catches" i need to look out for in an engine. i was reading in one of the articles and it said, for a ra23, look out for a mid-rear oil sump, is that true?.
any other information will be more than welcomed and would appreciate ne one helping me out here.
i am also looking for boot lid for my ra23. thanks!!

I just bought a 1990 chaser halfcut for $2200.
But if you add up everything motor, g/box, ecu, loom and all the other bits and pieces u get with a half cut, it works out cheaper and easier.

there is a list of dealers here

I got my 1g from SSS, I only actually needed the engine but they were the cheapest, everyone else I rang were more expensive for just motor.
I got ecu/loom/coil etc. and motor

other than gearbox and flywheel not sure what else you would need

SSS is very easy to deal with
my engine needed a new starter motor and they swaped it with no questions 2 months after I brought the motor

I second Dust's idea of buying a half cut, there is so much usefull crap in there that you can use e.g throttle cable, brake master, washer motor ect.
