I think you are looking at about 1300kg for a ST165?
I haven't modded mine yet, but there are a few modded ones around, I believe there is one in the for sale section...might want to have a look at that?

*real* weight of an ST185 is around 1450kg with 1/4 tank of fuel and all fluids.
I've done some weight loss to mine. Its currently 1359kg with 1/4 tank and fluids. (I've taken it to the weighbridge)
I've done :
* 7kg Oddessey battery
* Group A front bumper and support bar
* No Airconditioning
* No stereo gear
* Smaller radiator overflow bottle
* Smaller windscreen washer bottle
* Removed spare wheel/tyre (it doesn't fit over the new brakes anyway)
* Removed jack and tools
* Removed boot sound deadening and carpet

A rough rule of thumb I remember is:
ST165 1380kg
ST185 1440kg
ST205 1485kg
as best as I can recall.
And yes, there are a few trick ones around the place.

You're right mate, my bad....
It should read something like:
165 1345kg
205 1385kg
185 1450kg
The 205 is lighter than the 185, but not the 165.
Cheers,
Mitch.

I've always wanted to know about this. Can anyone just rock in to one of those truck weighing thingies on the side of the road and get weighed?
And if so, do they give you a weight for each corner or just the overall weight?

in Qld, you can just go to your local public weighbridge and drive on and they give you the figure. Its free, but if you need an official certificate, then it costs a couple of bucks.
From what I've heard the public weighbridges down south aren't free. I read a Zoom article on their XR6 turbo project car, and they paid $5 to get it done.

Very cool, I don't mind paying a few dollars to have it done. I just didn't want to rock in one day and have them say "What do you think you're doing d*ckhead, that's a mr2 not a truck"

Crikey! That's one fat-assed heavy car! Where does all this extra weight come from?
No wonder the old TA22's with the 2TG scream along. They weigh only 970kg. The RA25 comes in at 1040kg.
What's the power/weight ratio of the 165/205/185?
The GT TA22 would be 970/124 = 7.82kg/hp (maybe a bit more 'cos 2TG is a little heavier than the 2T)
The LT TA22 would be 970/102 = 9.51kg/hp
The GT RA25 would be 1040/145 = 7.17kg/hp
Even with 4 people in my car, it'd be lighter than a 165 with just the driver!

Well a standard ST205 puts out 250Hp or close to it
1385 / 250 = 5.54
ST185 is
1450 / 204 = 7.07
No-one ever said the ST185 was a lightning quick car in standard form But its easy to get that 205hp up to the 250+ region.

Hi,
250+hp! Good stuff!
I'm not conversant on the later models. I'm just an old school boy, and probably always will be, but I assumed the later Celicas would have more grunty engines to haul the weight around.
Thanks for the info - 'cos I know even less about the various engine types and power of anything after the RA65. (I'm living in the 70's... la la lalla la...)
However, it is interesting to note, in stock form, the various pwr/wgt ratios of the cars.

I can tell you that a bone-stock RAV4 weighs a mere 1179kg (5-door) dry-weight. Add the goodness of a 3S-GTE engine, ST205 gearbox and GroupA ST185 LSD (sans the back seats) with chromies and fat rubber and you something in the vicinity of 1400kg's of RAV-GT4. I'm not sure how much exactly, I haven't actually put it on a weighbridge to find out. But that $5 weighbridge is damn cheap... the one in Rawson St. Auburn charges $20-something for a weigh, and that's just overall-weight (not weight per corner, etc.).

The wagon only comes in at 1450 and that was about 100kg lighter than the GT4's on the same weighbridge day.
Do a search of the froums in Cruise and events and find the weighbridge day. 2 GT4's got weighed and the results are there.
On a side note the wagon with 7 ppl came in at 2160kg

there is a 10 sec Gt4 - but its in america + very heavily modified ..
Most " modified " ones on here post mid thirteens ..
they may be aporker but the 3sgte's power up abilitys can counter the weight ..
Mines in the 1400 KG vicinity as well .
Gt4's are weapons - in stock form they are fast but not blistering - just alot think " oh shit heavy " but they dont realise the new evo 8 weighs around much , and see what those things are capable of !
Liberate a few neddies and make a few ods here and there and a Gt4 will be capable of scaring ALOT of performance cars

The difference between a GT4 and old-school stuff is that a GT4 can do 0-100km/h in 8.5 seconds on tarmac...and does 0-100km/h in 8.5 seconds on dirt
Also, GT4s would have a totally different torque curve to those earlier cars - seeing as they are turbo - and even tho the kg/hp figure isn't amazing or startlingly good, they still go like all heck!

What suprises me is that 204's are considerably lighter than 205's.
My ST204R is stock as a rock and wieghs in at 1104kg.
Whereas the GT4 counderpart weighs about 300KG more
I didn't think the 3sgte weighed in at that much, i've got a 5F-SE at the moment.

I think you'll find that the 5S-FE you have now is a two-wheel-drive... whereas the 3S-GTE powered 205's are AWD. Two more wheels to power, a VERY heavy LSD and a chunkier gearbox... oh yeah, there's extra kilo's there.

Certainly is, FWD * sigh - shaddup garth *
Makes sense though, when you look at it in that perspective. I didn't think it would be an extra 250 - 300KG though.

the mechanicals weigh so much because they are built like brick shithouses to withstand the pwer + torque the 3sgte can produce ..
Im yet to hear of anyone killing a Gt4 gearbox ( bar syncro wear ) . You pay in dollars and in weight for quality bulletproof mechanicals - the Gt4 is an example of the highest degree of this
And FWD boy - Mines a bit quicker than 8.5 on both

I dunno if this is true for the other models, but on the ST165 the floorpan is different and the rear suspension and it's mounting points are beefed up compared to the ST162, this will also add to the weight of the car.

current wrx is over the 1500kg mark now
so in comparision an st185 isn't that bad
plus you only notice the weight of it if you
are slow off the line

It was a 185 gearbox...but to be fair, I shouldn't blame Toyota. It seems the guy who built the car cut corners and the box wasn't mounted properly.
Here are some photos (I hope)
Exhibit A (Rally Car block)

Exhibit B (spare block)

Basically, the box wasn't supported properly and the flex in the box caused the right angle drive pinion to explode...the pieces of the pinion cruising the box was enough to crack the case.
It's pretty stuffed actually!!
Hey Stu...wanna sell me my box back!!

They are heavy but that's why they last..they are bloody strong. They can be fast as well..my white car is now sub 4.5 sec 0-100 and mid 12 1/4s on the G-tech with around 200kw at the wheels.
Similar top speed as an R1 down the straight at Wakefield park so you'd hardly call that slow.
