Stereo in Mk 3 Supra Tue, 14 September 2004 10:59 Go to next message
Hey peoples, i wasnt sure where to put this, so if it needs moving, sorry!!

I went to put my stereo into my Supra on the weekend, but found that most of it wont fit without some cutting or modifying...

So i was just wondering if anyone had put 6" speakers in the doors, and 6x9's in the rear space where the factory speakers go...or do i need to make up a couple of boxes for them to go in..?

Cheers, big JON

its a PITA to put a decent stereo in.

I used the stock bracket for the head unit, though it left a gaping hole where the double din used to cover. Ill someday get around to replacing it Smile

4 x 4" speakers (and a sub if you can work out where to put it) is pretty much all you can fit. the only other way is by making a rack at the back of the car to sit the speakers on. I cant do this in mine as i have the targa roof...

I've been considering cutting holes near the armwrests in the doors for some 6.5" but i dont really want to fuck the interior..maybe someone else can offer suggestions as well, as i want something a little better to listen to Smile

6" splits will go easy in the doors with only minor mods.

Fusion make speakers that bolt into the rear factory position (4x6" or something).

Just get a blank 'pocket' from another Toyota - Hilux et al - to cover the extra hole... looks neat & factory.

4" speakers go in the front, and something like 4x6" in the rear. If you bought the speakers without checking then you're a twit, and if you already had them from another car then that's too bad.

Anything can be made to fit though Smile

6x9's will fit in the back but require custom fiberglass enclosures or get rid of the back seat..

clarion also do a 4x6" as i have them but they really don't sound that crash hot, just going to have to find a way to fit the DLS magnesium 6" splits in the back front and sub, should sound much nicer

The stereo ive got is out of my old car, so no i never bought it without checking.

Im gonna try and get the 6's in the front on saturday without too much cutting of the interior, there seems to be a lot of not much there but hopefully i can get it to fit somehow.

I was also thinking i could make up a parcel shelf as cyberpunk suggested and make up a parcel shelf directly behind the rear seats, there seems to be a lip there to support one...
