TA22 Factory wheel size/general wheel size questions.

From another thread I have this info:
Quote: | The original tyres on a TA22 are 165R13, which is an 82 series profile, overall diameter of 596mm
|
Did the GT TA22 come with the same size wheels or a size larger?
Or what about the TA23 or RA23? What size wheels did these come with?
Next can someone please explain wheel size codes to me? For example 225/50R16. Ok I know the 225 is the width but is this in mm? Is this the same as the 50? I know the 16 is the rim dia
Much thanks

The TA22 series (ET, LT, ST and GT) came with 13inch rims. The GT may of had slightly wider tyres, but the diameter (13inch) remained the same.
The RA23/RA28 series came with 14inch wheels.
You can stick larger diameter wheels on your car, but you must keep the overall "rolling" diameter the same. That is, if you put 14inch wheels on your TA22, then you'll need to have a lower profile tyre. This ensures that your speed remains the same.
Yeah, I know what you mean about profile and all that jazz. The profile is related to the width of the tyre. For example, a 215/60 tyre has the same overall diameter as a 205/65. Hmm.. it confuses the hell outta me at times.

Hi,
611mm eh?
13inch rims - 215/65=610mm, 235/60=612mm
14inch rims - 215/60=614mm
15inch rims - 205/55=607mm, 225/50=606mm, 235/50=616mm
16inch rims - 205/50=611mm, 225/45=609mm
That help you?

[(aspect ratio/100)*width*2]+(wheel diameter*25.4)=circumference in mm

Hi,
Awww, don't put up the formula - I was gonna brag at how smart I was
Actually, I got a list of the rim/tyre sizes. I got them from the ever helpful El Presidente-Pretty Boy.
Now, as you're a whiz-bang microprocessor guru, you can wire up an old Z80 system to do it for you!

Z80 hehe.
Ok ok, does anyone have any details that were on the TA22 placard? Any optional tyre size?
Cause if the tyre that was fitted to the TA22 from factory was a 165, that means the max width we can have is 214.5mm

Sorry I don't know anything about the plans for this car you are trying to work out wheels for. But if it is a car that is going to be engineered at some stage (ie you are doing other mods besides wheels). Get what ever wheels you want (diameter/width) after speaking to an engineer, and have them approved and noted on your certificate.
My car came standard with 12" x 4.5" wheels (I think the width is right??), stupidly narrow tires (145's or something narrower) and this would have meant I could have barely moved up to anything significantly larger/wider.
The engineer who approved my car said any wheel tyre combo could go on as long as it didn't rub on anything, was inside the guards, kept the track width within a certain limit (can't remember how much it could differ), and the speedometer was accurate to within xx%. This engineer is a signatory in NSW and ACT and approved a whole series of mods to my car.
If you are doing the wheel tyre change and not going near an engineer please disregard everything i said
Cheers,
Shane.

Everything on my car is modified and is being engineerd by the one person. I have spoken to him and he says this cannot be done. I have also spoken to the Transport Modification Dept and they the exact same thing.

Thats a pain in the a-hole then. Qld must be a bit tighter in that area than NSW and ACT.
The engineer I use approved my 16 x 7's and I know of another corolla the same model as mine that he approved with 17's. I guess I live in the lucky Territory (the good ol' ACT), our regs are still very lenient in regards to modified vehicles.
Good luck with it.
