Solexs but what type? Wed, 15 September 2004 11:33 Go to next message
just picked up a set of solexs and i was wondering if any of you that have the same carbs can help me identify what some of the things on the carbies are ??

also need to know if it is safe to run without a vacume line to your carbs and still have your engine running good, idle good??

i dont know how to get pics up here though, can someone help me with that? im really lost on these carbs, very different to the usual 40PHH solexs.

thanks.

What vacuum? If you mean the vacuum advance for the distributor, then yes, it should be connected. Shocked

grass hopper racing, i was looking for like an exploded view of these particular solexs that i have, i can send you pictures of them if youd like.. how is it possible that it works better with the vacume advance disconnected? but yeah just want to know if it will work..

SSI, yeah i mean the vacume advance from the dizzy to the carbs. i know it should be connected as on my old solexs, but these ones i have got now dont seem to have a place to put it onto or its either plugged up, there are a few bits of metal comming out of places as if it were blocked off, so maybe i can just run them without vacume adv connected?? strange though..

Maybe the car they were fitted to used a fixed advance curve or only mechanical advance. The 2T-G distributor is designed to use vacuum advance. Maybe if the port is soldered closed or something you could tap a fitting back in? Or take it from somewhere else?

solex has LOTS of models.
anything stamped into it?
the vacuum isn't really for the carb, it's for something that runs off of the carb, like the booster/servo or dizzy advance(nearly usless)or even a wind screen wiper motor.

the vacuum advance is really there to RETARD the ignition when the throttle is opened under a load.
