3S-GTE pistons to 3S-FE?????? Thu, 16 September 2004 12:05 Go to next message
Does anyone know if u can put 3S-GTE pistons in a 3S-FE motor?
real curious, if i can i'll get some for my car instead of getting a decompression plate made up to bring my compression down!

Why do you need to bring the compression down???

off the top of my head, the internals from the 3sgte and 3sfe are all different. same 3s block, different heads (ge /fe ) and i think different internals too. there was a post similar to this on ToyotaNation once.

the only reason i can think of that would require him to lower his compression is if he was planning a turbo conversion.

i'll try to find some clarification, but try ringing a toyota spare parts place and see what they say...

Cheers

I suspect you'll have problems with valve-to-piston clearance if you tried such a swap.

Yeah - the combustion chamber shape of the FE heads is much *much* flatter and shallower than the GE/GTE heads, so I doubt you'll lower the compression by much, if at all - you may even raise it with the GE/GTE pistons. The GE/GTE pistons have a crown shape, whereas the FE pistons are all dish-type. The gudgeon pin diameter should be the same, so they will fit on, but I doubt it'll have the effect that you want.

Thats cool, decompression plate will be way to go then,

Yeah i'm planning to turbo it, nothing major just ct26 on standard 3S-GTE manifold, once i'm finished i'll sell it and do something else, just wanna say i have a turbo apollo!

You may not need to decompress it that much you could just grab a copper head gasket that is 2mm thick or something...if you are using standard FE intake (ie injectors/ECU etc) then you won't be able to run much more than about 6psi of boost anyway.

yeah thats all i was thinking of getting was a 2mm or even a 1.5mm gasket, but if i max out the injectos could i run more boost with that standard computer?

Well, it's likely your standard computer will be more of an issue...although the FE injectors are kinda weak - I dunno if you can put the GE/GTE injectors in the fuel rail. The standard ECU won't run rich enough - I know there *should* be an idle mixture adjustment screw (dunno about where it is on your car tho) which you can use to adjust the fuel ratio minorly - but really I reckon you'll be lucky to get more than 6psi...you running any intercooler at all?

YeaH I'll be running a intercooler, maybr i can get my injectors hi-flowed and get the computer unichiped? maybe that'll be alright to run 12psi? I'm only aiming for 150-180hp at the wheels! nothing major! but we''l see what the mechanic reakons
