AE71 with a 20 valve would be sweet.
I think they tend to spin more easily,
than an AE86 but a slivia would be great.
RX7 FC3s would be good to, but they are tricky
to learn on

i should mention that the car is going to be a daily driver and that the bulk of my money is coming from selling my rx7 fc3s non turbo (good cars if u have the time and money and patience).
i have considered an ae71 but i just cant stand the looks of them. I dont mind paying the "premuim" that ae86's have attached to them, otherwise i'd have snapped up a cheapo ae71 long ago

reliability is a big issue for me. no car = no income = screwed
and i've had no trouble what so ever from my celica and nightmare after nightmare of never ending issues with my rx7.
i'm heavily leaning towards an ae86 but things might be different after test driving both cars

If you want to learn to drift I'd steer clear of a sprinter to start with. Too expensive to fix parts and panels when you inevitably have an off. To start with a KE70, AE71 or T18 would be a really good choice, although I know the sprinter looks better.
And are you going to keep the celica? Because it is very difficult to keep a drift car on the road permanently as a daily driver, no matter how reliable it might be. There's always busted diffs, broken indicators and lights, exhausts unmounting themselves etc.
You may also consider getting an NA S13 so you can learn to drift while being underpowered, then upgrade easily down the track. And they probably wouldn't be too expensinve to buy initially.

Go the 86, they're an awesome car to learn to drift/drive in !
They're nice enough looking too! fun as to work on! it'll teach you mechanics too
and about cost of panels, if you hit a wall or something, it's going to cost a lot to fix, regardless of what car you drive..

well i do like the AE86's however i'm going to say go for the AE71, do a 20v/gze conversion then when you feel you want to upgrade you have a good engine to throw in the sprinter.
that way you'll have the same/similar power, you can transfer the engine and the car panels are heaps easy to find at wrecker for the inevitable crash.
