Huge rims look wrong on old-school Celicas; I wouldn't go any larger than 16" rims unless you absolutely have to (eg really big brakes).

I had 15x7" on my RA23 with 205/50 tyres, and it worked and looked a treat.
I agree with Norbs, bigger doesn't look that great on the Celicas. I reckon they need a bit of rubber height otherwise they look wrong.

I agree with the esteemed gentlemen above me in this thread, big rims on a first gen Celica look poor. I run 15 x 6.5 on my RA23 and they look great. As you get wider rims you need the offset to reduce to zero to avoid clearance issues.

I have had a set of 14 x 7 Dragway Tri Spokes on my RA28 for years now. Have always wanted to get a bigger set of mags. So found this thread interesting to get a few peoples opinions.

Been playing with old school Celica's for a few years now. Widest on the rear, I have had 9", but the front maxes out at 7"
I currently have 16 x 7 all round, and IMHO it looks quite good. 17" on old school Celica's tends to negate lowering, and makes em look like 4 X $'s. Good thing to think about, the lower the profile of the tyre, the deeper your pockets have to be when buying new tyres!.
regards Chuck.

Hi,
IMHO 17's are too big and don't look real good on the old classics. 15 inches on a TA22 look smick, 'cos you can still run 60/65 profile tyres and the you've still got a bit of rubber there, as opposed to running lower profiles.
Also, but maybe someone can enlighten me, the lower profile would hammer your suspension more than a higher profile, unless you've modified your suspension and shcoks etc. The original celicas used 75 series profile.

I am running 205-50-16's on the back of my 28 and 205-45-16's on the front. There is photos of it in the "photo shoot" gallery if your interested in what they look like.
Putting wider wheels on the front increases tyre drag and the load experienced on your steering components. They won't break but your pitman and idler arms will wear out faster.
Shane, the hammering your car gets has a lot to do with the tyre wall stiffness. I was using 205-50-16 Falkens on the front of mine and the ride was pretty harsh. I am now using 205-45-16 Nangkangs on the front and it handles better and the ride is a lot softer.

Bloody pitman arms! I was thinking of 205's on the front, but may go for 195's instead.

This thread has been locked mainly due to its age.
Old_skewl I don't think this thread is the best place to answer your question.
Prehaps do a bit of reasearch and then ask about certain cars within tech and conversions.
