Removing oil/grease stains from concrete Sat, 18 September 2004 06:01 Go to next message
My many "upgrades" on the Celica have left the carport floor a little worse for wear.

The concrete is not sealed very well.. ie it is slightly more porus than usual concrete I suspect. Was badly laid.

Now my brother is having his engagement party and Mum wants it clean! eek!

What shall I do? Here is a picture of the concrete. I have NO idea. Degreaser and pressure clean? I dont' think I am allowed to pressure clean? Can I paint and seal it somehow?

http://hosting.picgoo.com/uploads7/concrete.jpg

Thanks guys!

granulated pool chlorine...

sprinkle it like kitty litter, "just" get it damp/wet and let it soak for a bit. then hit it with a quick scrub, and hose (hehehe, did i say hose? a concrete surface? during water restrictions?)

Um, if you hose this very chloriney water onto nearby grass will this kill the grass? I don't know but i think that chlorine can be quite caustic. If Rob killed part of the lawn I think his mum would be a little more than annoyed. Rolling Eyes

lol too true! I have a special drain prepared Very Happy

I tried the degreaser + a little pressure thing from a compressor = not good enough Sad it is crap concrete... but there was not much water on the compressor sprayer.. it was just one of those crap mister things which I had set to max water volume

Selleys Concrete Kleen, this stuff works too well you will have new patches where the dirty patches were and makes the rest of the drive look dirty Mad

Put water over the area, sprinkle the selleys stuff on getn a wire brush (i used a hand held brush with stainless brissles) and scrub the area, leave for about 30 mins come back and hose it off.

Can do it a few times if it has soaked through a fair way

hire a karcher hi-pressure cleaner... they're good for cleaning all kinds of shit from concrete..

otherwise soak area in light oil or petrol and burn oil out - you'll probably cause irreprebale damage to the concrete and the odour will hang around for days... but it'll look wild when you do it Wink

another opton you have and im gonna do is go to kennards hire and rent a concrete sander (its like those floor board buffers), get somesand paper stuff for it and sand the whole floor

the only issue is you never know how far down the oil has dried through but i was told it usually stays surface unles there is a crack there.

last time i checked the machine was $50/day and each paper was $20. i know its expensive but you will have a brand new driveway/concrete

EDIT: or you can just paint it

If you don't want to kill the grass, try using a shitload of washing detergent with a small amount of water. Grab a scrubbing brush, get down on your hands and knees, and go nuts. It's hard work but it gets the grease off and isn't too harsh on the greenery if you rinse it off thoroughly when finished.

Find a local carpet layer. Persuade him to give you any off cuts or old carpet he has removed for free 'cause you will dump it. Carpet garage/drive. No oil stains and warmer to work under car in winter Very Happy

It's not gonna help you, but get a newer car Razz

Noticed my driveway the other day, since my dad finally got rid of his old Corona & updated with something a little newer almost all the oil stains have washed away, yet there are still stains there from when I cleaned my radiator over 5 years ago!

Oh and just noticed clubagreenies' suggestion, i've got carpet in my garage & it works a treat Very Happy

The best stuff for this or any degreaser work is the Kenco stuff.
Just pour on the drive and scrub with a broom, let it sit for 10 mins and hose off Cool .And don't worry about the directions just use itstraight from the bottle.
