yes and yes.. but why would u?
the w58(from the 2JZ GE) is meant to have a better shift.. but i dont think its worth the fucking around to go to a bit weaker box
it will handle the power. fwiw norbie uses them behind his 2jz gte
will need a jza80 non turbo bell housing
will need w58 clutch, flywheel, master cylinder, slave cylinder,
also need a tail shaft and yoke which you can get from the ma70 non
turbo

Not if he has a 7M.
I agree, it's a waste of time and money. Stick with the R154 unless you're having problems with it. There are apparently ways to improve the shift quality if this is bothering you.

to improve shift quality use a castol oil.. i cant remember which one.. but when i change my oil thats what ill be using
also when u get used to how it shifts it becomes easier to make it smoother urself

i do have a r154 on a 7mgte. i have also found a 2jge gearbox for a grouse price. i have also blown up the r154 twice and lookin for different options.
isnt the 2j gearbox better than the r154? (not sure of the ratios for the 2j)
and will it fit to the r154 bellhousing?

If you've blown up R154's, you'll probably blow up a W58. Having said that, if you treat it nicely it should be OK. The JZA80 W58 is definitely a nicer box, it's newer for starters and has cool stuff like synchro on reverse and dual synchro's on 2nd and 3rd. Very nice box to shift.
No you can't use a R154 bellhousing, you need a W58 item. Actually you might as well buy a whole W58 out of a NA MA70 because you'll need the shifter mechanism as well; the JZA80 box has an external shifter which won't line up with your transmission tunnel.

if you have blown up the r154 i would say its from something like starvation of oil and mudering it that way
afaik the only real weakness is the thrust washer

What a crock! Said it before and I'll say it again... when driving in a spirited fashion an R154 is likely to break before a W58.
In theory the R154 is stronger but the thrust washer will mince the thing in no time! Mince a piece of metal through the gears and even the strongest box in the world would be toast.
I'd suggest that you modify the R154 - there are two upgrades that are particularly important. Firstly replace the thrust washer.. and secondly if you're going to do any drag racing or looking for 500-600hp you should consider a billet input shaft also.
